In late 2022 the launch of ChatGPT, an AI tool that is closely associated to Microsoft and, in particular, Microsoft Azure, took the world by storm.
The assumption seems to be that Microsoft has a lot of data and therefore was able to develop this tool.
Unfortunately, that is wrong.
Microsoft was a company that became successful by developing operating systems, and then desktop office software. There is not a lot of data for Microsoft in that to develop anything at all.
However, a few years ago, Microsoft began moving all that to the cloud, their cloud. Outlook, Office 365, then Microsoft Azure.
That is a lot of data. Your company's data. Your personal data. Everything about you.
Microsoft are keeping quiet about how they develop ChatGPT, but there is only one way they can have done it: using your emails, your documents, your personal files.
Yet companies are remarkably chill about it. They have strict confidentiality policies in place, but they put a lot of information in the cloud as if it didn't matter. You read your emails online, instead of using good old Outlook on your computer, for no reason at all.
At Koch Richard, we do not use the cloud. We do not put your data anywhere else than in our own computers. Nobody will ever use them for purposes other than what we have them for.
Can you say the same of your own data?
