What does an 88% drill-hole hit ratio actually mean?

For an early-stage gold exploration project, hitting gold in 20–40% of drill holes is typical. Above 50% is already highly successful.

At Beauce Gold Fields’ Grondin target, 14 of 16 drill holes returned elevated gold anomalies of 300 ppb or more, with results reaching up to 11 g/t gold.

That works out to an 88% hit ratio.

Not all mineral exploration follows the same playbook.

One of the interesting characteristics of phosphate exploration is that the target is often expected to be close to surface. If it's buried too deep, it may no longer be economically attractive to develop.
