In December 1976, just two days before the Smile Jamaica concert, armed gunmen broke into Bob Marley’s home and shot him, his wife Rita, and his manager Don Taylor. Miraculously, all three survived. Despite his injuries, Marley took the stage only 48 hours later and performed in front of over 80,000 people at the National Heroes Park in Kingston. His courage sent a powerful message of peace and unity during a time of deep political violence in Jamaica.

That spirit still resonates today. As our neighbors to the south struggle with division, Marley’s music reminds us that there is always a better way forward.

I’m thrilled to have seen our Musiprof bands perform so well last Saturday at Quai des Brumes. Congratulations to all the participants and to our amazing teachers—Dany-Alexandre Ménard, Mark Nelson, and Gregory Kustka—for helping to make this such a great success.

⚡️Un succès pour le première atelier de « band » !⚡️

Le 22 août avait lieu le premier atelier de formation « apprendre à jouer en groupe ». Plus d’une trentaine de participant.e.s ont pris part à l’activité de 3h qui se tenait au basebinstudios
Animée par Gregory Kustka-Tsimbidis , Dany Alexandre et Elijah, tous enseignants chez Musiprof. L’atelier comprenait les activités suivantes:
- un exercice d’écoute et de rythmique en groupe;
- une prestation d’étudiants du cours de « band »
- un exercice d’improvisation en groupe sur une forme de Blues.
Si vous êtes vous aussi tenté de prendre part à un band, mais souhaitez être accompagné dans cette expérience, le cours de band est fait pour vous! ⚡️A success for the first band workshop ⚡️

On August 22, was the first « learning to play in a group » training workshop. Over thirty participants took part in the 3-hour activity held at
Led by gregorykustka , danyalexandreeeee and Elijah, all teachers at Musiprof. The workshop included the following activities:
- a group listening and rhythm exercise;
- a performance by students from the band course
- a group improvisation exercise on a Blues form.

Meet Luis Almeida, our exceptional cello teacher at Musiprof! 🏆 A Brazilian cellist and the Olivier Toni Award winner from Universidade de São Paulo, Luis is celebrated for his versatility in both baroque and contemporary music. 🌟

🎻 Founder of Musical Gym and Cello em Pauta, Luis is dedicated to advancing cello practice and exploring its rich history. As the director of the Agassiz Chamber Music Festival and creator of the Glimpses of the Future competition, he’s shaping the future of music. 🎼

Currently pursuing his doctoral research at McGill University, Luis brings a wealth of experience and passion to his teaching.

🎶 Welcome Ka-Hei Chan to Musiprof! 🎶

We are thrilled to introduce Ka-Hei Chan as our new clarinet professor at Musiprof! Currently serving as the 2nd clarinet of Orchestre Philharmonique du Québec, Ka-Hei is also the co-founder of the award-winning Blakeana Duo, a Clarinet-Piano duo that has been performing internationally since 2022.

Ka-Hei holds a Graduate Diploma in Performance from McGill University, where he studied with Todd Cope. He previously earned his Master’s of Music at the Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of Charles Neidich and his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with Andrew Simon. Ka-Hei is the winner of the 2022 Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition, the 1st prize winner of the International Music Competition London “Grand Prize Virtuoso,” and the 3rd prize winner of the 2018 Buffet Crampon Asia Pacific Clarinet Competition.

As a classically trained clarinetist from Hong Kong, Ka-Hei loves premiering and performing contemporary music by Hong Kong composers, sharing the unique cultural heritage of Hong Kong through his performances.
