Red Coalition: Longueuil Police (SPAL) 2024 Stop Data Shows Black Residents Interpellated at 2.1× Their Population Share and Arab Residents Stopped Under Article 636 at 5.6×

The Red Coalition is issuing this statement following the publication of 2024 race-based policing statistics by the Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL). The disclosure of this data forms part of ongoing transparency and accountability obligations that followed a 2020 court decision involving the City of Longueuil and SPAL.
“Publishing race-based data is not the finish line, it is the starting point. When Black residents are stopped at roughly double their population share, and when Article 636 shows extreme disproportionality for Arab residents, the responsible response is immediate reform.
