ODS Principal Michael Hayes grew up in and around London, Ontario and attended The University of Western Ontario (now Western University). He has worked in and for First Nations all over Canada for over 25 years doing community research, program development, and evaluation in areas of mental health and addictions. Michael holds a B.A. in Medical Sociology, with certification in program and policy

evaluation. For many years he taught in the Department of Sociology at the University of Western Ontario and currently teaches in the Traditional Aboriginal Healing Methods program at the Anishinabek Educational Institute. Additional certifications and experience include crisis and trauma counselling and su***de prevention in First Nations communities. Michael's most recent interests include, among other things, the role of traditional spirituality in the continued progress toward healing and self-determination in First Nations, and the development and delivery of culturally competent health and human services.
