Each year brings new challenges to your business; this is especially true as Covid-19 protocols continue to change. Have you taken the time to review this past year? Are you able to pinpoint what contributed to your successes and what may have led to less favourable outcomes? This knowledge is important as you set goals and plan how to move forward in 2022.
Things to consider:
Clarity for your employees – are performance expectations and procedures clearly laid out and accessible? Employee handbooks as well as Policy and Procedure binders make all the difference!
Emergency plans – severe weather, power outages, fire, medical emergencies, etc., do happen. Having escape routes posted in case of fire or where to go if there is a tornado can make a huge difference; not everyone is able to think on their feet in a crisis. Does your staff know what to do if there is a medical emergency? Having a staff member trained in first aid and CPR is important, especially if you’re in an industry the uses sharp knives, power tools, heavy machinery, ect..
Standard Operating Procedures – this lays out how your business operates in detail. This enables others to keep your business running if you need to step away.
Administrative needs – paperwork can take up an extraordinary amount of time making it difficult to focus on running and growing your business.

Can your business function if for some reason you need to step away? The unexpected happens and can affect your ability to work - severe illness, car accident, family emergencies, etc..
This is a time when Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are invaluable. SOPs map and document every critical detail of your business. Having these details documented enables a person to step in and maintain your business at the same standard until you return.

Do your employees know what to do to keep safe when severe weather hits? It can be hard to think clearly when faced with a crisis. This is when written procedures can make a difference. A safety plan posted where employees can easily see it will help to keep your staff and customers safe.

Why hire a virtual administrative assistant?

It keeps overhead costs down – a virtual assistant doesn’t require you to provide an office space for them to work in, or office equipment such as a computer, printer or fax machine.

You don’t have to provide a benefit package, vacation pay or contribute to EI, CPP or WSIB.
You can hire a virtual assistant for something as simple as a single project, such as putting together an employee handbook, or as a full-time assistant to manage your calendar, emails, HR, invoicing, payroll and customer service.

Hiring a virtual assistant to take care of your recurring office tasks frees up your time to focus on your core business areas.

Did you know that businesses in Ontario covered by the Occupational Health & Safety Act (that's almost all of them) are required to post a Health and Safety at Work poster? Also, if you have 5 or more employees, you must prepare, maintain and post a health and safety policy, a workplace violence policy, and a workplace harassment policy.
