Caring Katie's Home Support

Caring Katie's Home Support I love help people with their day to day lives, from getting them ready for the day to helping them with shopping or being a companion. I love helping people.

I enjoy helping people and going at their pace. I grew up in Waterloo until i was 19 then moved to BC until 2022 then moved back to Waterloo. Even when i was in elementary school i helped take care of another little girl that had a disability, that turned into a babysitting job with that family. I was in the restaurant business for over 10 yrs first in Kitchener then in Mission BC, until i decide

d to become a Health care Assistant( Personal Support Worker for ONT). I love to read and listen to audio books that are expanding my knowledge on life. I love nature.

It's More Than Just Care šŸ’—
Being a Personal Support Worker doesn't always mean helping with things people traditionally think of as "CARE"
Sometimes, it looks like taking a gentle walk by the river with my client, enjoying the sunshine and the sound of the river, having a conversation, sharing a laugh, or simply getting out of the house for a change of scenery.

Because physical and mental well-being are both so important.

For me, caring for someone means looking at the whole person-not just task orientated, but what brings them joy, connection, confidence and being able enjoy life without thinking about only there illness or struggles.

Different types of Dementia

Young onset dementia
When symptoms of dementia start before the age of 65, we call it "young onset dementia." And there's a lot to learn about it. Our Canadian knowledge hub for young onset dementia draws on the experiences and insights of many people, families and researchers.

Vascular dementia
The most common type of dementia after Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia occurs when the brain’s blood supply is blocked or damaged, causing brain cells to be deprived of oxygen and die.

Lewy body dementia
Lewy body dementia – caused by abnormal 'Lewy bodies' deposits of protein called alpha-synuclein inside of the brain's nerve cells – shares many similarities with Parkinson’s disease.

Frontotemporal dementia
Frontotemporal dementia is an umbrella term for a group of rare disorders that primarily affect the areas of the brain associated with personality and behaviour.

Mixed dementia
It's possible for someone to have more than one type of dementia. When this happens, it's known as mixed dementia.

LATE-NC
Limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy (or LATE-NC) is the most recently identified form of dementia, noted for its close similarity to Alzheimer’s disease.

The term "dementia" doesn't actually refer to one, specific disease. Rather, it's an overall term for a set of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain.

šŸ’— You Don’t Have to Do It All Yourself.

There comes a point when caring for someone you love starts to feel like a second full-time job.

You’re managing appointments.
Running errands.
Preparing meals.
Keeping the house together.
Checking in constantly.
And trying to make sure Mom, Dad, or someone you love is safe and comfortable.

And somewhere along the way, you may start wondering…

ā€œAm I failing them if I hire someone to help?ā€

Please know this:

You are not failing them. ā¤ļø

Asking for support doesn’t mean you love them any less.
It doesn’t mean you’re abandoning them.
And it certainly doesn’t mean you aren’t a good daughter, son, spouse, or family member.

It means you care enough to recognize that you are human, too.

At Caring Katie’s Home Support, I don’t come into your loved one’s life to replace you.

I come alongside you.

I can be there for companionship, errands, appointments, meal preparation, personal support, or simply giving you a few hours to breathe, work, spend time with your own family, or just be you again.

Because your loved one deserves compassionate care.

And you deserve peace of mind.

Sometimes the most loving thing you can do isn’t doing everything yourself.

It’s allowing someone you trust to stand beside you. šŸ’—
