When you’ve had to endure screaming pre-schoolers and now have a throbbing head and have caught their colds 😭

I’ve worked with kids most of my life you’d think by now I’d be immune lol! But this is the life of an ECE!

Being around germs and catching colds is NOT fun.

Neither is NOT getting paid if you’re sick to go into work. Because here’s the reality of being an ECE..

We don’t get sick days..
We don’t get personal days..
And if we ever need to visit the Dr- guess what?
We don’t get paid!

Imagine having the flexibility to be able to work from home and when you don’t feel good you just get to clock out.. but still get paid!

That’s what I’m working towards. So when Friday rolls around I’m not exhausted, run down and sick as a dog.

Hi, 👋🏻 if you’re new here, I’m Gemma, single mom in her 40’s.
My journey into being a single parent hasn’t been an easy road. Throw in navigating co-parenting and living back with my parents in my 40’s.
I decided that life was too short to live unhappy and just get by. So I started building something that would help me live the life I desired. Not to get rich! But to have a comfortable life. Instead of relying on government help whilst trying to stay afloat on one income.

Not having my kids full time doesn't mean not being their mom full time!!

So when I'm trying to squeeze 20 minutes of work in while they're with their dad and text messages are coming through from both kids..
I'll take it!

Especially the 'Love you' ones!

Some days you don’t want to do the thing. But you do it anyway.

Washed the dogs because my mom’s back can’t do it anymore, and because I’m here, and I can. That’s reason enough most days.. not motivation, not feeling like it, just being the one who’s able.

Quitting isn’t really on the table most days. Not with this, not with the rest of it either. You just keep going, even through the parts you’d rather skip.

Then the cold water hit and — genuinely — it was the best part of my day! Funny how the thing you’re dreading ends up cooling you down in more ways than one.

If you’re in a season of showing up even on the days you don’t want to, and you’re ready to build something of your own in the pockets you’ve got left..

I did it!! I finally fulfilled my dream of getting a tattoo!
And not because I’m having a midlife crisis.. 🤣

But because I got sick of letting my comfort zone get in the way all the time. Until I reached my 40’s I was always so scared to do things that seemed scary or out of the ordinary to me.

Getting a tattoo was one of those things. And I knew if I didn’t do it soon.. I’d never do it!

Another one checked off the bucket list ✅

Just like when I started my online business. I’d talk myself out of it all the time. And now I realize how crazy that was.

Because all the time I took procrastinating could have been time used getting my business off the ground.

I’ve gotten to a place in my life when ‘waiting around’ is just not an option anymore.

I ended up living back with my parents with my 2 kids in tow and had to figure out a plan B if I ever wanted to stand on my own two feet.

Never did I believe that it was possible for a single mom to build her dream life around an already busy life! But here I am!!

The days are long but the years are so short.

I miss the days when we’d just pack up and go to the beach on a Wednesday because we could.

When we’d pack a picnic and head to the zoo or the park. And get icecream everywhere we went. And we’d be out all day long.

When finding shells or discovering a frog or a crab was the most exciting thing ever.

As your kids get older they don’t want to spend their summer days with their mom.
You find yourself having to bribe them to spend a couple hours with you on these hot days. ☀️

My daughter still wants to do stuff with her mom but I have to pin her down.. her busy social life! 😭

I wish I could turn back the clock because the days when my kids were little and wanted to do ALL the things went by in a flash.

I know our summers will change again as they get even older but for now I have my memories to hold onto.

Anyone else in this season right now?
