Holiday Travel and Sleep!...
1. Don’t Fret! There’s so much stress over the holidays already, try to not let your baby’s sleep be one of them! When parents are going out for the day or away for a couple nights the biggest advice I tell them first is to try and relax about their baby’s sleep! If you have added stress your baby can feel it … and not in a good way. 😉
2. Bring a spot for your baby to nap- This can be a pack n play, stroller, possibly a carrier if your baby is really young. You want to try and have your baby be able to have their naps- they may not be as long or at different times than usual but as long as you give them the opportunity to nap their day and yours will be so much more enjoyable!
3. If staying overnight or placing them in a separate room for a nap, try and create their bedroom - bring their sleep sack unwashed sheets, pjs they have already slept in, white noise and any lovies that they normally have. It may take them a little longer to go down in a new place but give them time!
4. If you are room sharing with your babe overnight and they wake up, try not to react immediately. If you can give them 5-10 mins to try and resettle on their own they will likely go back to sleep! If not get up, do a quick cuddle and put them back down. *Best case scenario for room sharing is having a
5. Finally, lower your expectations- remember that your baby is sleeping in a new, unusual place and expect some extra wakings/protest for the first couple days. Do your best at not completely assisting to sleep but let’s be real if you’re in a house full of people and your baby is protesting you may end up assisting to sleep. Worst case scenario you get home, we jump on a support call and get you all back on track!
ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS!
