In the late 90s and early 2000s, I had the privilege of sharing a significant chapter of my life with Mike C.
Our bond was forged in the vibrant yet demanding world of the security industry, where teamwork, trust, and courage were paramount. Ironically, Mike chose to leave that path to pursue a career in the tattoo industry—a decision that might seem unexpected at first glance. Yet, as I reflect on it, I can’t help but draw parallels between our crafts.
In both the security and tattoo fields, mastery takes time. Just as a tattoo artist hones their skills with each inked design, security professionals refine their abilities through experience and challenges. Mike’s journey as a tattoo artist is undoubtedly marked by growth and improvement, much like my own evolution in the security realm. Today, with over 30 years in the industry, I can confidently say that both of us have transformed from rookies into seasoned veterans, navigating the complexities of our respective fields.
During my time in the security industry, I encountered various companies, but one that stood out was Intelligarde. While I had my reservations about the ownership, I couldn’t deny the company’s panache and professionalism. Their uniforms were impeccable, pre-employment testing was thorough, and training was ongoing. Intelligarde exemplified what it meant to be organized and cohesive. The departure of such a well-structured company marked a turning point in the industry, highlighting the need for continued improvement and adaptation.
Through all the changes, my friendship with Mike has remained a constant. A few years ago, I expressed to him how much I learned from our time together—more than he may have realized at the time. I am forever grateful for his support and camaraderie. In the face of challenges, we often found ourselves walking into situations that tested our limits, where safety was a concern. Yet, I always felt a sense of security knowing that Mike had my back.
Our experiences together shaped not only our professional paths but also our personal lives. The lessons we learned from one another were invaluable, and I hope that I, too, imparted some wisdom during our time together.
As I reflect on our journey, I am proud to still call Mike my friend. Whether he’s crafting intricate tattoos or I’m navigating the complexities of security, the bond we formed remains strong. Thank you, Mike, for your unwavering support and for being an integral part of my story. Here’s to the adventures we had and the futures we continue to build—always a pleasure to walk this path with you.
