Position Summary
As our Painter, you'll be responsible for preparing and finishing a wide variety of custom sign components while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Prepare metal, plastic, wood, foam, and composite materials for painting through sanding, cleaning, masking, and surface repair.
- Mix custom paint colours and apply primers, paints, and specialty coatings using HVLP and other painting equipment.
- Inspect finished products to ensure colour consistency, coverage, adhesion, and overall finish quality.
- Maintain spray guns, paint booth equipment, and other painting tools to ensure reliable operation.
- Follow manufacturer TDS, SDS and WHMIS safety requirements when handling paints, solvents, and coatings.
- Work closely with fabricators, installers, and production staff to meet project deadlines.
- Assist with shop support tasks such as sanding, masking, material handling, and finishing when needed.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Required Qualifications
We're looking for someone who has:
- Experience with automotive or industrial spray painting using HVLP, airless, or similar spray systems.
- Experience preparing and finishing painted surfaces in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to read and follow technical product data sheets and safety documentation.
- Knowledge of WHMIS and safe handling procedures for paints and solvents.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- The following experience would be considered an asset:
- Experience with the PPG Matthews Paint System.
- Previous work in the sign industry, metal fabrication, manufacturing, or automotive.
- Experience matching custom paint colours with existing colour systems (Pantone, Sherwin Williams etc.)
- Forklift certification.
- Working at Heights certification.
- Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) certification.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Stand for extended periods in a shop and paint booth environment.
- Lift and move materials weighing up to approximately 60 lbs.
- Perform repetitive sanding, masking, spraying, and finishing tasks.
- Safely wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators and eye protection and paint suits.
- Ability to withstand hot work environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Wage: $21.00–$23.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
