Monastery Cellars is steeped in rich history. A part of the Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre, it is the home of the Carmelites.
They seek to live in God's presence and call people to a deeper faith.
Working today in education, parishes, communications, evangelization, and social justice initiatives, this Order follows an 800-year-old tradition of spirituality.
With foundations in Africa, Asia, and South America, they came to North America in 1864, first settling in the U.S. and then quickly moved to establish a foundation in Canada, settling in Niagara Falls in 1875 at Mount Carmel.
In 1925, the chapel and another section of building were added to accommodate an increasing number of Carmelite students. The chapel, in its elegant simplicity, contains many symbols of the Carmelite tradition. Most striking are the priceless stained-glass windows, imported from England and stained in Toronto by McCausland Limited.
And to this day, the beauty lives on at Monastery Cellars. Stop by and see it for yourself!
