Remembering September 11, 2001

Today at Queen’s Royal Park in Niagara-on-the-Lake, our community came together to remember, honour, and reflect on the events of September 11, 2001.

It was a deeply moving and meaningful commemoration, made even more special by the incredible people who joined us.

A heartfelt thank you to all of our speakers for sharing your words and reflections, and to the first responders who attended and continue to serve and protect our communities. Your presence today was a powerful reminder of the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of those who run toward danger when others are running away.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the members of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire Department, Fort Erie Fire Department, Niagara Regional Police, EMS and NOTL Royal Canadian Legion members for joining us and helping us honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

To our American friends and guests, as well as singer Joshusa Vacanti, and guest Vincent Tummino, thank you for crossing the border and standing with us today. The friendship between our two communities is a powerful testament to the enduring bond between Canada and the United States.

And finally, a very special thank you to our partners who helped make today’s commemoration possible: the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and the Upward Chamber of Commerce from Lewiston, New York. 🇨🇦🇺🇸

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who responded with extraordinary courage.

Together, we will pause to remember the lives lost, honour the courage and sacrifice of first responders, and reflect on the resilience and unity that emerged in the wake of tragedy.

This commemorative service is open to everyone. We encourage residents, businesses, veterans, first responders, and visitors to attend as we remember those we lost and reaffirm the values of hope, service, and community.
