Find our 2023 Riesling at select LCBO stores across the province – like in this historic building in the heart of Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The history nerd in me had to learn more about this storied space. Originally built in 1795, the building was burned during the War of 1812 and rebuilt in 1817 as a one-storey home. A second floor was added in the 1840s (zoom in to look at the different brick), around the same time the neighbouring Courthouse was built, giving the building a bit more prominence. Over the years, these walls have housed many businesses, and in the 1920s it became a popular ice cream parlour – a true hotspot for young people at the time. In 1930, it became what it’s known as today: an LCBO.
Thank you to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum for answering my phone call and doing the research to satisfy my curiosity.
