Planting day for our Pinot Gris at our main farm. 12,000 vines went into the ground on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday-the crew started planing at 5am to beat the rain. Now we wait three years for these vines to produce their first (small) crop, but it’s not until year five that they’re in full production.

We are happy to welcome Craig to the HGE Team. Craig joins the farm as our Equipment Sales Representative bringing a breadth of knowledge on grower needs in the vineyard. Craig will be working alongside Thomas representing ERO – Ferrand, Dhughes, LIPCO and Wagner across North America.

*HGE Team Member Highlight* Meet Thomas, one of our mechanics at HGE. Thomas joined the farm last summer as a tractor operator and we quickly learned that he is very good at tractor repairs, so we kindly asked him if he’d also be interested in putting that mechanical expertise to work in the Shop. Depending on the day, you’ll find Thomas driving a John Deere (his favourite tractor) or working alongside Henry and Fernando in the Shop.
Ps. Check out pic #2 that his daughter sent us of Thomas harvesting grapes from his vineyard back in the day. Thomas had been growing grapes in Niagara since the 90s.

While everyone is on tulip and blossom watch, we are on bud swell / break watch. As we quickly adapt to this warm weather, Mother Nature likes to remind us that she’s the boss, and unfortunately, we may be in for some chilly temps again next week. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t get too cold.
