These are the Wismer brothers of Wismer Vineyards, responsible for so much of the fine Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay that we get to work with.

From left: Kevin, Chris and Craig.

In the , they are well represented by Wismer-Wingfield “Ouest” Chardonnay, Wismer-Foxcroft “Nord” Chardonnay and Wismer-Parke Pinot Noir, including “Wild West End.” They also care for the contiguous Hanck Vineyard that we now get Pinot Noir from.

Thank you all, gentlemen, for your dedication to your vineyards and to your winemaking partners like us.

MANAGING HIGH HEAT PLANTING CONDITIONS FOR GRAPEVINES:

1. Cover the vines with soil. The purpose is only to protect the vines from direct sunlight so the hill or mound of soil only needs to be enough to just cover the top of the vine. Once the vine starts to grow through this shallow hill, or the temperatures are no longer threatening, then the vine can be uncovered. DO NOT uncover the hill prematurely if high heat and sunny conditions are forecasted! The temptation is to remove the soil as soon as growth starts. Any growth that starts under the soil will be VERY tender and HIGHLY susceptible to sun scorching. It is important to allow the vine to grow through the hill before uncovering.

2. Use plant protectors that provide shade to the vines such as carton type protectors. Translucent or opaque protectors are not recommended for this purpose and should not be used until vines start to grow or risk of damaging temperatures has subsided.

Please use caution when planting in extreme temperatures. Grapevines should be completely covered with loose soil in these conditions and then uncovered as they start to grow.
