Frogpondfarm Organic Winery Ontario's first certified organic winery crafting premium wines using only sustainable practices. How did we choose the name for our winery?

Our story begins in 1996 when Jens Gemmrich bought an orchard that had not been farmed for several years. After clearing apple, pear and peach trees, vines were planted and nurtured organically producing the first vintage in 2001. Ten acres of vines, Riesling, Cabernet Franc and Merlot surround the pond at our Larkin Road vineyard. The soil is sandy, silty loam over a silty-clay, stony till deposi

ted during the last ice, producing wines with distinctive mineral character. Twenty more acres of organically farmed vines, Gamay Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Vidal and Chambourcin, are located around the corner on Fourth Line. The soils there are richer, silty loam to clayey loam and produce more fruit forward wines. Well, there is a pond … and many frogs, including the Leopard Frog … the rest is history. Our commitment to the well being of our staff, to sustainability and responsible stewardship of land and water resources is integrated into everything we do.
