His care team knew all about Romeo's dream and decided it was time to make it happen. When they pulled up to the marine park, you could instantly see the pure excitement take over. He sat right by the water's edge, feeding them fish and beaming with joy as he watched the dolphins glide through the water.

Romeo’s story is heartwarming proof that true care goes far beyond delivering a standard routine. It’s about listening intently to what someone truly wants, stepping outside the everyday, and helping them live each day fulfilling the wishes that sit within their heart.

🚨 Understanding the Difference: PSWs and Regulated Healthcare Professionals 🚨

Many families are surprised to learn that Personal Support Workers (PSWs) in Ontario are not regulated by a professional college or governing body.

Unlike nurses, physiotherapists, and other regulated healthcare professionals, there is currently no provincial regulatory body overseeing PSWs. This means:

✅ There is no licensing requirement to practice as a PSW.
✅ There is no professional college to investigate complaints or discipline members.
✅ There is no public registry where families can verify credentials or standing.
✅ Training programs can vary significantly in quality and scope.

While many PSWs provide exceptional, compassionate care and are valuable members of the healthcare team, families should understand that the title “Certified PSW” does not carry the same regulatory oversight as regulated professions.

It has been an incredible and truly humbling experience supporting the Fort Albany First Nation community during their evacuation to Mississauga and the greater Toronto region. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to have served in this capacity.

The immense coordination required to support the community has been a massive collaborative effort. Thank you to all the dedicated partners—including Loomex, Creemergency, Ontario Health, CarePoint Health, Peel Public Health, Toronto Public Health, CMHA Peel Dufferin, and all the clinical and logistical teams.

The collective enthusiasm and effort to coordinate critical services like primary care, prescription refills , dental screening clinics, mental health support, and prenatal care has been inspiring.

It was an honor to serve as the Nurse Next Door health lead on the ground for this essential response. Wishing the Fort Albany community well as they move toward repatriation.

Last week, we proudly shared that many Nurse Next Door locations across Canada had become Accredited through Accreditation Canada. Now, we’re thrilled to kick off a series of upcoming posts about this recent milestone!

For those unfamiliar with the process, Accreditation is an independent, third-party review of our clinical and operational practices. It confirms that our team is meeting rigorous national standards set for safety and quality in home care.

Achieving this milestone is a reflection of our commitment to Making Lives Better. It affirms that when a family chooses us, they can feel confident that their loved one is receiving care that meets the highest standards.

Over the next couple months, we’ll be highlighting the specific areas where our team excelled and educate you on the process of Accreditation. We look forward to sharing how we continue to find a better way to support seniors in our community.
