Article by Vertical Magazine that has created alot of discussion around Operations in the US. It must have been a tough job but Elan has represented the many different views very well.
I have been asked if Transport Canada will follow the same stance as the FAA. I truly have no idea, but I do know that our approvals through TCCA, had to meet all FAA requirements for HEC.
It's not an easy road to compliance but one worth travelling.

Thanks to the incredible support from the Sonoma County Sherrif's Department, Rotorcraft Support Inc., and Bell Helicopter, we have the first FAA approved 407 conducting HEC operations for law enforcement. We were honored to supply our HEC equipment to Sonoma County and look forward to supporting other law enforcement agencies throughout the country.

Quick trip down to Newberg, Oregon to go through our system on Presicions'
This ship was outfitted to provide fully compliant equipment for the USFS short haul program. It's always a pleasure working with such great people. All USFS short haul machines will be equipped with our equipment by next week.

Rescue @ 18,000' with Boost Systems. Monique Richards, the first solo female to summit Mount Logan required rescue on her descent and was very lucky to have other climbers near by to assist with the rescue. Parks Canada rescue specialists from Banff were flown in to assist with the rescue using Horizon Helicopters, Inc. B3 and our dual hook HEC system.
Without the assistance of fellow climbers, Parks Canada, and tremendous flying by Cole Hodinski the outcome would have been very different for Monique.

It was hard work for Monique Richard to reach the summit of Canada's highest mountain last month, becoming the first woman to do so in a solo trek. It was even harder coming down.

The FAA has released a Safety Alert for Operators relating to their Human External Cargo Operations. The FAA brought this up at the UPAC meeting in Las Vegas and from the looks of it they are standing their ground on the use of unapproved equipment. The link is included below if you are interested in reading it. I also included their recommended action directly below for easy reading. We are happy to help provide approved equipment for anyone affected by this.

Recommended Action:

Part 133 rotorcraft operators, public aircraft operators, and government agencies are prohibited from conducting HEC operations with attaching means not certificated to HEC requirements contained in parts 27 and 29. To ensure operators are in compliance with regulations, they should be

familiar with the information contained in this SAFO, AC 133-1B and evaluate 14 CFR part 133, Rotorcraft External-Load Operations, to ensure compliance with properly certified attaching means for use with HEC and current regulations

Very busy weekend for North Shore Rescue. Some shots below from one of the three long line rescues that took place. With our HEC system we were able to extract 8 people in just two sling loads. The injured subject was slung from the red circle in the photo while her climbing partner and other rescuers were slung from a less exposed spot. The climbers spent the night in the gully after one of them fell during the rappel and was seriously injured. The fall is indicated by the red line.

Our first system up and running in the United States. Skydance Helicopters of Minden, Nevada has sent their to Puerto Rico. This aircraft will be used in the rebuilding of powerlines throughout the island. With our dual hook HEC system this will be one of the most versatile aircraft on the project. As many operators in the United States have been grounded for non compliance with 27.865, Skydance is up and running with our fully approved equipment.

The Transportation Safety Board released an update regarding their investigation into the helicopter crash last week.
There were some interesting findings in the update that may help prevent further accidents. Our thoughts are still with the families, friends, and co workers of James Baragar, Jeff Howes and Darcy Jansen, and Kyle Shorrock.
