Hi community!

Reclaim Collective, Changemark Research + Evaluation, and Substance Use Health Network are co-hosting a webinar to introduce Changemark's new toolkit: Shared Purpose: A community guide to ethical research partnerships

Thurs Jan 29th - 12-1:30 pm ET (9 am PT, 10 am MT, 11 am CT, 1 pm AT, 1:30 NL)

Join us for a practical webinar introducing Shared Purpose, a community-informed guide designed to support more ethical, respectful, and mutually beneficial research partnerships. The guide draws on real-world experience to address challenges communities often face in research, such as extractive practices, misaligned priorities, and limited benefit sharing.

During the session, you’ll learn why Shared Purpose was created, what it includes, and how it can be used throughout the full research process, from early relationship-building to data use and sharing results. The presentation will highlight core principles including respect, reciprocity, relational accountability, and relevance. It will also walk through the guide’s seven chapters and the concrete tools communities and partners can use to assess fit, ask critical questions and set clear expectations.

This webinar is well suited for community organizations, researchers, and partners who are interested in or striving towards research relationships that are grounded in trust and aligned with community priorities. To help make the session as useful and relevant as possible, we encourage you to review the guide in advance and come with questions.

🌱 PRO BONO INITIATIVE — SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS ANNOUNCEMENT

Earlier this year, Changemark Research + Evaluation launched an initiative to support the organizations on the front lines of harm reduction by offering no-cost proposal development and grant-writing services to community-based and non-profit groups working in substance-use care.

We committed $100,000 in professional services to help close the growing gap between community need and available funding — a gap that continues to widen as life-saving, evidence-based programs face shrinking resources.

The response was overwhelming.

We received 63 applications from extraordinary organizations doing courageous, complex, and essential work in communities across the country.

🙏 THANK YOU COMMUNITY REVIEW COMMITTEE

Our sincere thanks to our Community Review Committee, who gave their time, care, and insight to an incredibly difficult selection process.

We are proud to announce that 18 organizations have been selected to receive no-cost fundraising and grant-writing support. A few have chosen to remain confidential at this time.

Today, we’re excited to launch a redesigned online home for Changemark Research + Evaluation, showcasing our work as a social purpose agency specializing in substance use, mental health, and community-based research.

What you’ll find inside:
✔︎ Our full suite of services rooted in driving systems change and equity
✔︎ Our approach to clinical trials that pair scientific rigour and lived experience
✔︎ Our commitment to reinvesting expertise into community organizations
✔︎ Stories and examples of research that drives real-world impact
✔︎ New leadership team members and showcased experts in the field of public health and clinical research

Our focus areas:
▪︎ Substance use care and programming
▪︎ Mental health promotion, treatment and programming
▪︎ Clinical trials specifically working with controlled substances
▪︎ Community-driven programs and Indigenous-led partnerships
▪︎ Evaluation and evidence-generation that strengthen systems of care

Why this matters:
Research in substance use and mental health requires deep relationships, passion, advocacy, a strong commitment to systems change and is also deeply personal. Our website reflects our belief that science should be grounded in dignity, collaboration, and social purpose — not just compliance checkboxes.

This launch marks another step in building a model that puts community first and impact at the centre.

Changemark will be managing a Phase 2 study of inhaled cannabis for PTSD in Veterans, advancing evidence-based treatment options. Over the past several years, we’ve built a strong track record in managing complex Phase II–IV trials. We offer extensive experience managing trials for various mental health indications, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders, and have overseen studies exploring the therapeutic potential of cannabis, M**A, psilocybin, ibogaine, and ketamine. Our team combines advanced regulatory knowledge, trusted relationships with top investigators, and a reputation for delivering high-quality, high-impact results. As a woman-owned and led contract research organization, we bring an anti-prohibition, harm-reduction approach to research, rooted in human rights, equity, and justice.

MAPS, which has long stood at the forefront of research and advocacy to dismantle outdated barriers to care, has selected Changemark as its contract research organization on this pivotal trial, placing trust in our expertise to apply the highest standards of research to an area of care that matters deeply to veterans, their families, and the future of health policy.

We’re excited to continue expanding our clinical trial collaborations with organizations that share our commitment to excellence and impact.

ANNOUNCING PRO BONO GRANT WRITING SERVICES

Please repost and help us spread the word to Canadian, non-profit community-based organizations providing harm reduction services in your network!

Changemark is announcing the launch of a program to provide no-cost proposal and grant writing services to non-profit, community based, organizations offering harm reduction services in the area of substance use. We’re dedicating $100,000 in professional services to support this critical work. Eligible organizations are now invited to apply.

Canada is nine years into a public health emergency, with over 50,000 lives lost due to toxic drug poisonings since 2016. Ongoing shifts are taking place in provincial and federal funding priorities, and as a result, evidence-based harm reduction programs have experienced a decrease in funding — Altogether, this has left a gap between community need and the availability of services. Those on the frontlines providing immediate response cannot be left behind. Changemark is offering a new initiative where eligible organizations are able to apply for pro bono grant writing services including:

✅ Grant Writing
✅ Grant Research & Prospecting
✅ Fund Development Strategy
✅ Grant and Proposal Writing Training & Support

Due to the enduring impacts of colonialism and systemic racism, toxic drug-related deaths and events have disproportionately impacted First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. As a result of funding disparities and inequitable access to lifesaving supports, people living in Northern, rural, and remote locations are also disproportionately impacted. Changemark will prioritize applications from Indigenous-led organizations or those offering services and programs in First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. We will also give priority to groups supporting other underserved populations disproportionately affected, including Black and racialized people, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, youth, trades workers, s*x workers, people experiencing housing insecurity and/or poverty, those recently incarcerated, people who have lived experience with the child welfare system, and individuals with co-occurring mental health challenges.

Organizations are invited to apply by 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘁 𝟱:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺 𝗣𝗧, for a limited number of pro bono service spots, selected through a formal review process.
