All About Transfers & Access: FAQ for Digital Marketing Agencies!
We've reached the end of our educational series! Now that you know the benefits of Google Ads Manager Accounts (MCCs) and Google Business Profile (GBP) Organization Accounts and how to professionalize your agency, you might have some lingering questions.
Here, we answer the most common ones:
1️⃣Can I really not grant access to just one specific campaign in my main account?
🅰️Unfortunately, no. Google Ads doesn't offer this direct functionality. Access levels (Admin, Standard, Read-only) always apply to the entire account. That's why, for secure and limited client access, you must move their campaign to a separate account under an MCC.
2️⃣If I transfer a campaign, will its Historical Data also transfer?
🅰️No. When you transfer a campaign using Google Ads Editor or Export/Import, only the campaign structure (ads, keywords, settings, ad groups, etc.) is transferred. Past performance data (like clicks, costs, conversions) does not transfer and remains in the original account. To access this, you'll need to export reports from the old account.
3️⃣Why didn't "Paste" work in Google Ads Editor? What should I do?
🅰️This can happen sometimes. The most common reasons are not selecting the correct destination account or the "Campaigns" section.
🔹Solution: Ensure you've selected the destination account at the top of Editor, and in the left panel, make sure you clicked on "Campaigns." Then right-click and "Paste."
🔹Best Alternative: If you still face issues, use the Export and Import method via CSV files. This is the most reliable way to fully transfer campaigns between accounts in Editor. (We covered the steps in previous posts.)
4️⃣After transferring the campaign, why isn't it running?
🅰️There are two main reasons:
🔹Campaign Status: Campaigns are usually transferred as "Paused." You need to change their status to "Enabled."
🔹Billing Information: The most crucial reason! Every new Google Ads account requires valid and active billing setup. If payment information isn't entered in the new account, the campaign won't run.
5️⃣Can I transfer multiple Google Business Profiles to the new Organization Account simultaneously?
🅰️Yes. If you are the Primary Owner of those profiles in your old account, you can place all of them into a "Location Group" and then transfer ownership of that entire group to your new Organization Account. This is the best method for bulk transfers. (We detailed the steps in previous posts.)
6️⃣What about the 'Client Profiles to Transfer' group in the new Organization Account? Should I delete it?
🅰️ This group was just a temporary group for the transfer process. It's recommended that you:
🔹Move all the Business Profiles out of this group and into more logical and permanent groups (e.g., "Restaurant Clients" or "Client A's Businesses").
🔹Once the 'Client Profiles to Transfer' group is completely empty, delete it to keep your workspace tidy.
