In today’s world, information security is not just a technical requirement — it is a strategic necessity for growth, competitiveness, and earning customer trust.

By achieving certifications such as ISO/IEC 27001, software companies can:

Build greater customer and user trust

Access international markets

Gain competitive advantage in public and private tenders

Reduce the risk of cyberattacks and data breaches

These standards help create a secure, scalable infrastructure that strengthens your brand and sets you apart in the software industry.

At ACS Canada, we issue ISO certificates under the supervision of a European accreditation body that is a full member of EA (European co-operation for Accreditation).
These certificates are internationally recognized, fully traceable, and accepted by government bodies and global buyers.

Why ISO/IEC 27001 Is No Longer Optional for IT, Software, and AI Companies in Canada

In today’s Canadian market, information security is no longer a competitive advantage, it is a market entry requirement.

As a Lead Auditor for ISO/IEC 27001 with extensive experience working with Canadian organizations and international IT and AI service providers, I see this reality clearly:
Many B2B contracts, enterprise partnerships, and international outsourcing opportunities do not even reach the negotiation stage without ISO/IEC 27001 certification.

What ISO/IEC 27001 Signals to the Canadian Market

ISO/IEC 27001 demonstrates that an organization:
• Manages information security in a structured and systematic manner
• Identifies, assesses, and controls information security risks
• Operates with a mature and reliable management framework
• Reduces legal, operational, and compliance risks for its clients

In the eyes of Canadian buyers, this translates directly into trust, predictability, and long-term reliability.

What This Means for IT, Software, and AI Companies

For technology-driven organizations, ISO/IEC 27001 enables:
• Easier access to RFPs, tenders, and enterprise contracts
• Smoother export of software, SaaS, and AI-based services
• Alignment with Canadian privacy and data protection regulations, including PIPEDA
• Increased confidence from clients, partners, and investors
• Stronger brand positioning in international markets

In a market where many claim to be “secure,”
ISO/IEC 27001 provides independent, audited proof — not marketing statements.

For companies aiming to scale, attract serious Canadian clients, and compete globally,
ISO/IEC 27001 is not a cost; it is a strategic investment.

A Structured, Auditable Approach to Operationalizing GDPR in Cloud Environments

As regulatory and contractual pressures around personal data protection continue to rise, organizations need a standards-based, independently auditable method to demonstrate GDPR alignment, especially when delivering or relying on cloud services.

ISO/IEC 27018 provides exactly this foundation.

A company called Eagle Protect PBC has submitted a Citizen Petition to the FDA requesting a ban on vinyl (PVC) disposable gloves for food handling in the U.S.

The petition argues that PVC gloves may:
-Tear more easily than other glove types

- Contain chemical additives like phthalates that could leach into food

These concerns are backed by studies, especially in fast-food and food-service environments. However, the FDA has not banned PVC gloves, the petition is currently under review.

Historically, the FDA has rejected similar petitions, including a 2023 request to ban certain phthalates in food packaging.

This petition reopens a critical conversation about food safety standards and the regulation of food-contact materials.

What’s your take? Should the FDA move forward on this?

In December 2022, the Government of Canada introduced significant updates to the Hazardous Products Regulations (HPR)—a core component of WHMIS 2015. These amendments, designed to enhance hazard classification accuracy, improve transparency, and align with the Seventh Revised Edition of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), have major implications for manufacturers, importers, and distributors of hazardous products across Canada. To support industry transition, a three-year compliance period was established, spanning from December 2022 to December 15, 2025. Now, with less than two weeks remaining, the urgency to act is greater than ever.
What Do the HPR Amendments Include?
The 2022 updates to HPR represent one of the most comprehensive revisions in recent years. Key changes include:
• Alignment with GHS (Rev. 7) and updated hazard classification criteria
• Revised labeling requirements for substances and mixtures
• Fully updated SDS structure and content requirements
• Adjustments to physical and health hazard definitions
• Enhanced clarity on Confidential Business Information (CBI) provisions
These changes directly affect how hazardous products are classified, labeled, documented, and supplied in the Canadian market particularly in provinces such as British Columbia, where WHMIS compliance plays a critical operational role.
What Should Companies Be Doing Now?
To prepare for the end of the transition period, companies should:
• Conduct a full audit of current SDSs and product labels
• Identify substances requiring re-classification
• Update or rewrite SDSs according to HPR (2022) requirements
• Obtain updated technical data from suppliers or manufacturers
• Train staff on WHMIS / HPR changes
• Establish documentation and version-control processes
How We Can Support You
If your company needs assistance reviewing, updating, or preparing SDSs or labels under the updated HPR requirements, we at ACS Canada would be pleased to support you through this compliance process.

The Status of ISO 22716 in Canada’s Cosmetics and Personal Care Industry

ISO 22716 is one of the most widely recognized international standards for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in the cosmetics and personal care industry. However, for companies operating in the Canadian market, a critical question arises: Does ISO 22716 carry legal enforceability in Canada?
Understanding ISO 22716
Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), ISO 22716 provides comprehensive guidelines for:

Manufacturing, quality control, packaging, and storage
Workplace hygiene, personnel training, product traceability, and risk management
The primary objective of the standard is to minimize health and safety risks to consumers through consistent, documented, and standardized operational procedures.

ACS Canada’s Professional Recommendation for Cosmetics Manufacturers:
1. Obtain ISO 9001 Certification (with a scope tailored to Cosmetic product category)
Issued by globally recognized bodies such as IAS-IAF(USA) or EU Accredited Certification Bodies
2. Obtain ISO 22716 (GMP) Approval Certification
With approval certification as an official attestation of GMP compliance in cosmetics manufacturing

A Strategic Message for Canada’s Meat Industry and U.S. Exporters

Traditional quality control methods are no longer enough. The time has come for all Canadian meat producers and processors, regardless of size, to adopt a complete, structured, and preventive HACCP system. At ACS Canada, we believe HACCP is not just a compliance tool, it’s an investment in your brand’s future, customer trust, and global market access.

HACCP and the U.S. FSMA, A Perfect Fit
Canadian meat companies exporting to the U.S. must now comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
FSMA requires:
• Risk-based preventive controls
• Sanitation and allergen management
• Supply chain verification
• Comprehensive documentation
HACCP covers all of these. Without it, your products may face:
• Border delays
• Extra inspections
• Refusals or shipment holds
