Did you know potash comes in different colours, with different grades suited to different applications?

Potash can range from white to deep red or pink, and the difference goes beyond colour. Red or pink potash is widely used in dry fertilizer applications, while white potash is often used in liquid fertilizers and hydroponics.

What gives potash its value is what it provides: potassium, one of three primary nutrients plants need alongside nitrogen and phosphorus.

At Neptune, potash is one of two commodities handled through our North Vancouver terminal, moving from Saskatchewan mines to international markets.

Behind Neptune's 2026 United Way Campaign is a dedicated committee of 23 members helping bring this year's campaign to life.

Chaired by Amanda Sutton, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Neptune, the committee has helped organize activities throughout the summer to raise awareness and support for United Way BC.

As Amanda shared, "It is inspiring to see colleagues come together to support our communities and help those who need it most."

For Neptune, the campaign is about more than reaching a fundraising goal. It is also an opportunity to connect, give back, and support programs and services that help people across B.C.

Thank you to every committee member for their dedication to this campaign and the cause behind it.

Neptune’s executive team recently joined the District of North Vancouver Firefighters Charitable Society for a unique team-building experience.

The day included a communications challenge, a relay race, a simulated rescue from a burning building complete with fire hoses, and a rope exercise over Lynn Canyon.

The experience was offered through DNV Fire Charity’s Barn Burner event, helping raise funds for community initiatives on the North Shore, and it was a reminder of the skill, courage, and teamwork that goes into the work our local firefighters do every day.

Thank you to the firefighters who volunteered their time to make it a truly memorable day.

Thank you to the North Vancouver Chamber for hosting a timely conversation with the Honourable Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, about Canada’s transportation future.

The event brought local business and community leaders together to discuss Canada’s trade and infrastructure priorities. At a time when increasing Canadian exports to overseas markets is more important than ever, a stable and competitive supply chain is essential to making that possible.

We were proud to support the event and join this important discussion about the role North Shore businesses and waterfront industries play in Canada’s trade and transportation network and in strengthening our local economy.

Early this month, the United Way Dunk n’ Dine fundraiser brought Neptune employees together for lunch from the Triple O’s food truck, a turn at the dunk tank, and another opportunity to support this year’s campaign.

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, or volunteered, and to Joshawa Larson, Taylor D**g, Vince Johns, and Jeff Crawford for stepping up and taking the plunge for a great cause.

Port Day is coming to Canada Place this Saturday, August 29.

Hosted by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, this free community event celebrates Vancouver's maritime industry with interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, live music, and opportunities to learn more about the people and organizations that make up the local port community.

As a terminal on the North Shore waterfront and a longstanding member of the Port of Vancouver community, Neptune is proud to be part of an industry that connects Canadian resources to global markets and supports jobs and trade across the region.

A throwback to some of the moments that have shaped Neptune's United Way campaign over the years.

This year marks 20 years of Neptune supporting United Way BC, with some employees celebrating 27 years of personal involvement. Over those years, contributions from our team have helped support programs and services that make a real difference for people across the province, from emergency response and food security to housing, seniors, children and youth, and Indigenous Peoples and communities.

We are proud to support this meaningful cause and grateful for every employee, vendor, supplier, and community partner who has been part of this journey.

One of the most impressive pieces of equipment at our terminal are the stacker reclaimers, and these photos give you a sense of why.

The stacker reclaimers serve two functions in Neptune's steelmaking coal operation. They stack incoming coal onto the stockpile as trains are unloaded on site. Then, when a vessel is ready to be loaded, the large bucket wheels at the end of their 45-metre boom scoop coal from the stockpile and deposits it onto a conveyor belt that feeds the shiploader at the berth.

Weighing more than 1,200 tones and built right here in BC, these are some of the key pieces of equipment that move Canadian steelmaking coal from rail to vessel.

For two decades, Neptune has run its annual United Way campaign driven by the generosity of our employees, vendors, suppliers, and community partners. This year, for the first time, we have established a dedicated United Way Committee and set an ambitious goal of $100,000, with every employee contribution matched by Neptune.

The campaign is well underway and will continue through August 31.

As a longstanding United Way BC partner, we are proud to support programs and services that make a real difference for people across the province, from food security and housing to children and youth programs, seniors outreach, and emergency response and recovery.
