Canada secured the 18th spot on the 2025 World Happiness Report, dropping from 15th in 2023 and 5th in 2011.
The rankings are based on Gallup survey responses from 147 countries, reflecting self-reported life satisfaction over three years.
The report emphasized the impact of caring and sharing on happiness, though Canadians expressed declining optimism about others’ willingness to help. Despite this, studies showed people were more altruistic than expected, with high rates of returned lost wallets worldwide. Key happiness factors for Canadians include strong social connections, meal-sharing traditions, and quality of life, though the self-reported score has dipped from 7.5 in 2011 to 6.8 in 2024.
