Labour Day saw the return of the Quaddie to the Oak Bay Club. Last included on the club schedule back in 2022, a Quaddie has a team of four play a pair of pairs games in round one, a singles and triples game in round two and then come together for a fours game to finish off the tournament. This means each team is involved in five matches altogether and each player plays three different types of games in the same day.

Forty bowlers (ten teams) signed up for the event and after the first four rounds of play there were five teams with 3-1 records. Incredibly all five of these teams lost their final match to teams with lesser records and after the final game was done we had six teams tied with 3-2 records.

Winning the title on the tiebreaker was the team of Ian Capon, Brian Sandercock, Sandy Armitage and Lorraine and Doug Paik. Second place went to Brent Merchant, Jean Morrison, Malca Casiro, and Bob Austin. The final podium team in third spot was Louise Mason, Lorne Cowley, Donna Stewart and Mel Macara.

If you didn’t sign-up for this fun format this year then think about it for next year as it is sure to be back in 2027.

The Second Annual Summer Snake Showdown croquet tournament was played in ideal summer conditions on Saturday, June 18th. A random draw was done to create the eight teams of two players that battled through three preliminary rounds to determine the finalists. Mitch Fumalle and Kory Swain as well as the duo of Lorne Oakes and Nigel Brooks were the only undefeated teams after the preliminaries and met in the final with Lorne and Nigel winning by a 7-5 score to be crowned champions. In the battle for third place it was Pierre Dunn and Norma McLelland defeating Donna Del Torre and Jim Cliff.

The final tally is in for our Canada Day fundraiser. $7,265 was raised for the CHAMPS program.

A part of the War Amps Organization, the CHAMPS program, provides support and equipment to child amputees which is part of the War Amps organization. The War Amps CHAMP Program was thrilled to receive such a significant contribution.

Thanks to Serena's Pizzeria for donating a prize used in this fundraising effort!

Our Canada Day Fun Day fundraiser earned over $5000 for CHAMPS! A good time was had for a good cause. Pictured below is Red Team captain Lauren giving her inspirational pre-tournament speech. The Red Team went on to win over Team White.

The month long World Cup style Club Singles tournament wrapped up tonight. What began with 20 bowlers in five groups of four was whittled down to 12 after the group stage. Then on Sunday night the 12 bowlers competed in the elimination stage and the field was narrowed to a final four.

Jerome Foenander, Jack Showers, Kory Swain, and Raoul Wiart played two more rounds with Raoul emerging as our champion!

Several players from the Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club competed in the 2026 Men’s Provincial Fours Tournament June 19-21. It was fantastic to see such strong representations from Oak Bay and other local clubs.

Our team consisted of four umpires. We would like to thank: -Gordon Head Lawn Bowling Club for hosting such a wonderful well organized run tournament and Dan Bitterlich for commentary streaming with Geoff Poulton – they did a fabulous job.

Gold Medalists:
Brent Jansen, David Mathie, George Cubiss, and Steve Foster will proudly represent the British Columbia Fours team at the Nationals from August 16-20.

We're getting ready for our big tournament fundraiser for CHAMPS on Canada Day. Big thanks to the Harbourcats for donating tickets to help with our fundraising efforts. Their next home game on Wednesday night should be a great night for a ball game.
