velop and implement the HR strategies necessary to meet and exceed their business goals and objectives. However, in the increasingly complex world of HR, they face the same employee challenges as well as resourced larger organizations. PIVOTAL provides small and mid-size companies with affordable HR solutions that are typically only available to larger corporations. These include HR, Payroll, and Staffing solutions, including our proven HR and Payroll outsourcing service where we have built an impressive list of clients in all industries. HR Solutions

Our HR Solutions practice provides a complete suite of services from an HR Assessment (HROI™) to Projects and all the way to a full Outsourced HR Management solution. The Outsourced HR management service achieves more for our clients than a traditional in-house HR function by providing a dedicated HR Director, supported by a Group Leader, specialty HR skills, and support services such as cost-effective recruitment. This team-based and integrated approach provides companies with an effective and affordable alternative to internal hires and costly consultants. The PIVOTAL HR team has over 20 specialty HR skills such as; recruiting, compensation and pay equity, performance management, health and safety, risk management, and more. When you have a specific HR “pain point” in your organization, or are simply looking to upgrade your level of HR, we have the experience to help you achieve your goals. Outsourced HR Management / HR Assessments (HROI™) / HR Help Desk / Consulting Projects/Payroll Solutions

We provide companies with a complete payroll management solution; including both a dedicated payroll specialist (who is accessible to you at all times) and a cost-effective processing system. Our team-based approach allows us to manage your payroll without interruptions as we assign a dedicated person and backup to your business. Our team of payroll specialists also provide; payroll assessments, tax remittance advice, short-term contracts, and consulting skills. Expanding into Canada looks straightforward on paper. In practice, the employment landscape catches a lot of international companies off guard.

Canadian labour law is not a lighter version of U.S. employment law. It's a different system with stronger employee protections, province-by-province variation, and compliance obligations that don't have equivalents in most other markets. Getting it wrong isn't just a paperwork problem - it can mean back pay, penalties, and wrongful dismissal claims.

In our latest blog, we break down the five mistakes we see most often:
✔ Assuming Canadian employment law works like the U.S. system
✔ Mismanaging payroll, CPP, EI, and tax obligations
✔ Underestimating benefits expectations and statutory entitlements
✔ Missing Quebec's language and cultural compliance requirements
✔ Misclassifying employees as independent contractors

Read the job posting carefully before you update your resume. If it says "must be able to lift 50 lbs" - write "able to lift up to 50 lbs" on your resume. If it asks for WHMIS, list WHMIS by name. If it mentions reach truck experience, use those exact words.

This isn't about being dishonest. It's about being clear. Recruiters and applicant tracking systems are scanning for the language in the posting. A resume that mirrors the requirements gets noticed. One that describes the same skills in different words often gets filtered out before anyone reads it.

The posting is a checklist. Treat it like one.

Finding someone to show up is one problem. Finding someone who can actually do the job safely - and on day one - is a different problem entirely.

The gap between available and qualified is where most hiring mistakes happen. Someone passes the interview, stumbles through onboarding, and you're back to square one two weeks later.

Pivotal screens candidates before you ever see their name. Skills, work permits, health and safety orientation - all assessed in advance. By the time someone walks onto your site, they've already been evaluated against the specific requirements of your role.

Most employers think leaving a role open is the cautious move. The data says otherwise.

Research from the Kellogg School of Management found that doubling the time it takes to fill a vacancy cuts profits by roughly 3% and sales by 5%. That's before you factor in what happens to the team picking up the slack. McKinsey's global survey of over 14,000 employees found that burned-out workers are six times more likely to be planning their exit within three to six months. So the longer the seat stays empty, the more likely it is that the next resignation comes from someone you weren't planning to lose.

And if the pressure pushes you into a rushed hire? Robert Half puts the cost of a bad hire at 15-21% of that employee's salary. You haven't solved the problem. You've reset the clock.

Temporary staffing isn't a compromise. It's how you keep operations running, protect your existing team, and buy time to make the right permanent hire.

Happy Pride Month to our colleagues, clients, and communities celebrating this month.
Pride is a reminder that workplaces are better when everyone can show up as themselves. That's not just a value worth stating, it's one worth building into how we hire, how we lead, and how we treat the people around us every day.

Wishing everyone a safe and joyful June. 🏳️‍🌈

Most employees hear "PIP" and immediately start updating their resume.

That reaction makes sense. Performance improvement plans have a reputation for being a paper trail to termination rather than a genuine attempt to help someone turn things around. But when done right, a PIP is something else entirely - it's one of the clearest signals you can send that you believe in someone enough to invest in their growth.

In our latest blog, we break down how to use PIPs the right way:
✔ What a PIP actually is and what it should accomplish
✔ How to frame it as a support tool, not a punishment
✔ The role managers play in making or breaking the process
✔ Best practices for setting goals, timelines, and check-ins
✔ When to involve an HR partner to protect both sides

If you have not updated your resume in a while, you are probably leaving interviews on the table.

The job market is more competitive than ever. Most resumes never even reach a human, they get screened by software first. Knowing what hiring managers and applicant tracking systems actually look for is the difference between getting a callback and getting overlooked.

In our latest blog, we share the 5 essential elements every resume should have:
✔ A clear and compelling professional summary
✔ Quantifiable achievements, not just job duties
✔ The right keywords to get past applicant tracking systems
✔ Up-to-date contact info and a strong online presence
✔ Tailored content for every application

If your job postings still don't include a salary range, you may already be out of compliance.

Ontario's new pay transparency, AI disclosure, and vacancy rules took effect January 1, 2026. Three months in, a lot of employers still haven't updated their hiring process. Every public posting that goes up without the right disclosures is a potential compliance risk.

In our latest blog, we cover what you need to know:
✔ Who the rules apply to (and which postings are exempt)
✔ What salary information must be included and how it should be presented
✔ When and how to disclose AI use in hiring
✔ The new 45-day candidate communication requirement
✔ Record retention rules and how to stay audit-ready

By the time someone hands in their notice, the warning signs have usually been there for months.

SHRM research found that burned-out employees are nearly three times more likely to be actively job searching. The American Psychological Association documented the early signs HR and managers can spot before a resignation: withdrawal, irritability, lack of motivation, and quiet drops in productivity.

The cost of missing those signs is steep. Gallup estimates that disengagement costs the global economy $8.9 trillion every year. And since managers drive 70% of the variance in team engagement, the people closest to the problem are also closest to the solution.

The earlier you spot it, the more options you have. Once someone is mentally out the door, you are already too late.
