Weโ€™re pleased to share that we have brought another safe and successful shipping season to a close. The final convoy left Milne Port on October 10, 2026, at 6:30 pm.

This year, we safely loaded 48 ore-carrying vessels, including 4 Capesize and 8 Baby Capesize ships. These Capesize ships are more than twice the size of our other carriers, which allow us to move more cargo with fewer ships, fewer transits and lower CO2 emissions.

As in previous years, we implemented strict adaptive mitigation measures, including delaying the start of the shipping season until icebreaking was no longer required, vessels travelled in convoys, when possible, to reduce overall underwater sound, and ships continued to limit their speeds to an industry leading 9 knots. These measures were reached in direct response to ongoing consultation with Inuit and in full compliance with our commitments.

As in years past, this shipping season also included several monitoring programs including the Marine Mammal Aerial Survey Program (MMASP) and the Rocky Reef and Aquatic Invasive Species and Non-Indigenous Species (AISNIS) Program.

Wearing orange shirts and ribbons, staff at the Mary River Mine and Milne Port gathered Wednesday to acknowledge the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The ceremony began with a qulliq lighting and prayer as well as an address from Paul Quassa, Senior Advisory at Baffinland. He spoke about his own experiences in the residential school system, as well as our collective responsibility to advance reconciliation, and the importance of educating others about the tragic legacy of residential schools and its generational impact on Inuit.

Following the ceremony, and a meal of country food, site staff moved outdoors for the official unveiling of the Mary River Boulder that was carved by a team of five Inuit from Igloolik. The 16-tonne boulder features a collage of intricate carvings inspired by the people, land and wildlife on North Baffin.

The boulder has been placed at the entrance to the Mary River airfield and will serve as permanent welcome to those who come to Site.

We thank everyone who participated in these important events. At Baffinland, we are committed to working in partnership with Inuit and understand that reconciliation requires learning, listening, and action. ๐Ÿงก

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, we honour all those who have been impacted by the residential school system - the children who never returned home, the survivors, and the families and communities forever impacted.

At Baffinland, we are committed to remembering this history, supporting healing, and taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation.

As a symbol of our commitment, Baffinland had custom plaques designed that will be permanently displayed at the Mary River Mine Site as well as at our corporate offices in Iqaluit and Oakville. These plaques not only acknowledge our corporate responsibility to advance reconciliation, but also our understanding that reconciliation requires learning, listening, and action.

The intention of the plaques is also to honour the victims and survivors, while sparking conversations about how we can all contribute to truth and reconciliation. ๐Ÿงก

Congratulations to the people of Pond Inlet on the grand opening of the newly constructed Research and Training Centre. Led by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA), the centre will create new opportunities for training and development in the community.

Baffinland was pleased to contribute $12.2 million toward the creation of the centre, and to participate in the grand opening celebrations last week.

The training centre has more than 2,880 sq. ft. and is equipped with videoconferencing capabilities, smart technology, high-speed internet, a full-service cafeteria, on-site accommodations, a gym, laboratory space, heavy-equipment simulators and more. Baffinland looks forward to hosting training events at this new facility to support ongoing career opportunities for Nunavummiut.
