Lasting fulfillment isn’t built on achievement alone.

It’s built through:
The meaning we create,
The relationships we nurture, and
The values we choose to live by—especially when it’s hard.

Leadership isn’t about control or dominance.
It’s about service, responsibility, and the impact of our choices on others.

And that raises a worthwhile question to sit with:
Where in your life or leadership are you being invited to choose
what’s right… over what’s easy?
Not perfectly.
Just consciously.

Because those moments—more than any goal you achieve—
are what shape a life that feels deeply aligned and meaningful.

You are the greatest project you will ever work on.
Take your time.

Sharing a testimonial with you from Karen Scott-Price of Woodstock, ON.

"As the former owner of a Retirement home for seniors care facility with 26 staff members and 40 residents, I faced daily challenges that often felt overwhelming. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to work with Jennifer, who played a pivotal role in helping me navigate through those storms.
Jennifer provided me with practical tools and strategies that allowed me to manage the complexities of running a care facility with much more ease. Her guidance helped me streamline communication, resolve conflicts efficiently, and maintain a calm, productive environment for both staff and residents. Jennifer’s approach was always thoughtful, focused on balancing the needs of the residents while ensuring my team had the support they needed to thrive.
Her expertise was invaluable during some of the most stressful moments, and I can honestly say that her support made a significant difference in the success of the home. I am incredibly grateful for the peace of mind Jennifer brought to both my leadership and the overall atmosphere of the retirement home."

You don’t burn out all at once.
You drift there.
Not because you’re not capable.
Not because you can’t handle pressure.
But because—over time—you’ve built a way of leading that quietly drains you.

More reacting than thinking.
More managing than leading.
More doing… with less meaning.

In The Happiness Equation, Neil Pasricha shares a simple idea that most leaders overlook:
“Do more of what makes you happy.”
Sounds obvious.
It’s not.

Because most leaders have been conditioned to believe:
What they enjoy is secondary
What they’re good at becomes their identity
And what the business needs always comes first
So they keep saying yes to things that deplete them…
and no to the work that actually energizes them.

Here’s the cost of that over time:
You don’t lose performance first.
You lose:
Curiosity
Creativity
Patience
Perspective
And eventually… the edge that made you successful in the first place.

A better question to ask yourself this week:
👉 What part of my work actually gives me energy—and why am I not doing more of it?

Not in theory.
In your actual calendar.
The leaders I work with don’t need to escape pressure.
They need to realign how they lead within it.
That’s where momentum comes back.
That’s where clarity returns.

That’s where leadership starts to feel like something you want to do again—not just something you’re responsible for.

If this hits a little too close, that’s usually a signal—not a coincidence.

Most leaders have the formula backwards.

Work hard → achieve success → then feel happy.
That’s the model many of us were taught.
It’s also why so many high-performing leaders feel exhausted, even when things are “going well.”

After revisiting The Happiness Equation by Neil Pasricha, one idea stood out:
Happiness fuels success. Not the other way around.

That’s not soft thinking—it’s strategic.

Because when leaders operate from depletion:
Decision-making slows down
Creativity drops
Patience wears thin
Teams feel it
And performance follows.

Here’s the shift most leaders need to make:
Stop treating joy, energy, and fulfillment as rewards.
Start treating them as inputs.

That means:
Protecting time to think (not just react)
Leading from your strengths—not constant overcompensation
Building moments of progress and meaning into your week
Reducing unnecessary friction in how you operate
Not someday.

Now.

I see this every day in my work with leaders.
The ones who sustain high performance over time aren’t doing more.
They’re leading differently.
They’ve stopped waiting for things to slow down before they feel better.
They’ve redesigned how they show up.
If leadership has started to feel heavier than it should, this is worth paying attention to.

Because the goal isn’t just success.
It’s sustainable success you actually enjoy.

What Did You Learn About Yourself This Week?

This week, we've explored some powerful ideas from Taking Flight and the impact of understanding our behavioural tendencies through Extended DiSC®.
We talked about:
Why self-awareness is the runway for personal and professional growth.
How our behavioural patterns influence communication, relationships, and leadership effectiveness.
The blind spots we often can't see ourselves.
Why assessments create awareness, but coaching helps turn awareness into action.

One truth continues to stand out:
The better we understand ourselves, the better we can understand and work with others.
Whether you're leading a team, building a business, navigating a career transition, starting your professional journey, or simply wanting to become more intentional in how you show up, self-awareness is one of the highest-return investments you can make.

Imagine understanding:
✨ What motivates you
✨ What drains your energy
✨ How you respond under pressure
✨ Your natural communication style
✨ How others may experience working with you
✨ Where your greatest growth opportunities exist

That's the power of an Extended DiSC® assessment combined with a coaching conversation.
So here's my invitation:
☕ Book a "Java with Jenn" conversation.

We'll connect, explore your goals, and discuss how an Extended DiSC® assessment can help you gain practical insights that you can immediately apply to your leadership, career, business, and relationships.
No pressure.
No obligation.

Just a meaningful conversation focused on helping you better understand yourself and what's possible for your future.
After all, the most important journey you'll ever lead is the one toward becoming the best version of yourself.

📚 If you've been following this week's posts and are curious about Taking Flight or Extended DiSC®, send me a message or comment "FLIGHT" below and I'll reach out.
What is one insight about yourself that has changed the way you lead, work, or live?

Self-Awareness is the Beginning. Not the Destination.

One of the biggest misconceptions about behavioural assessments is that the report itself creates change.

It doesn't.

The report creates awareness.

What happens next is where the real growth begins.
Over the years, I've worked with leaders, business owners, professionals, and emerging talent who have all had a similar experience after receiving their Extended DiSC® results:
"Wow. That's me."
They recognize their strengths.
They see patterns in how they communicate.
They begin to understand why certain situations energize them while others drain them.
But awareness alone doesn't automatically create new results.
The real question becomes:
Now that you know, what will you do differently?

This is where coaching becomes so powerful.
Together, we explore:
✨ Which strengths should you lean into more often?
✨ Which behaviours might be limiting your effectiveness?
✨ How can you adapt your communication to build stronger relationships?
✨ What assumptions are shaping your decisions?
✨ What new possibilities become available when you stretch beyond your comfort zone?

Some of the most meaningful breakthroughs I've witnessed haven't come from learning something new.
They've come from seeing something familiar in a new way.
A leader discovers they don't need to have all the answers.
A business owner realizes delegation is a skill, not a risk.
A professional learns that their quiet voice still deserves a seat at the table.
A new graduate gains confidence by understanding the unique strengths they already possess.

The assessment provides the map.
Coaching helps you navigate the journey.
And the destination isn't becoming someone else.
It's becoming more intentional about who you already are.
That's one of the central themes behind Taking Flight.

Growth begins when we understand ourselves. Transformation happens when we choose what to do with that understanding.

What is one thing you've learned about yourself that changed the way you lead, work, or live?

✨ Client Success Story ✨

One of the things I love most about coaching and behavioural development work is that the impact often extends far beyond the initial conversation.

Several years ago, I had the privilege of facilitating an Extended DiSC® coaching and development session for a talent team. Recently, one of the participants reached out again—not for herself this time, but to refer a recent graduate looking for support as they navigate the early stages of their professional career.

For me, there is no greater compliment than someone remembering the value of a coaching experience years later and trusting me enough to recommend me to someone important to them.

Here's what Mina Marcello, Assistant Vice President, shared following our session:
"Jennifer, Thank you for your support! Our talent team highly benefited from the coaching session you led us through. The DiSC training and your ability to convey the key learnings and help us plan to implement the key learnings after our session was so beneficial! Your ability to make the session interactive and engaging given our virtual environment was exceptional. Such a pleasure to work with you!"

What stands out to me isn't just the positive feedback—it's the reminder that self-awareness is a skill that continues to create value long after the workshop ends.
When people better understand their behavioural tendencies, communication preferences, strengths, and growth opportunities, they become more effective leaders, teammates, and professionals.
Whether you're:
✔ Leading a team
✔ Developing emerging leaders
✔ Supporting high-potential talent
✔ Navigating a career transition
✔ Starting your professional journey
Self-awareness is often the foundation that accelerates growth.

I'm grateful to Mina for her kind words and for thinking of me years later when someone else could benefit from support.
If you're curious about Extended DiSC®, leadership coaching, career coaching, or behavioural development for your team, I'd be happy to explore how we can work together.

What if the biggest blind spot in your leadership, career, or relationships is one you can't see yourself?

Most people can tell you their strengths.

Far fewer can tell you:
• How they respond when under pressure.
• What unintentionally frustrates others.
• Why certain conversations feel effortless while others feel exhausting.
• How their communication style impacts trust, influence, and results.

The fascinating thing about behaviour is that we all have patterns.

Patterns that help us.
Patterns that sometimes hold us back.
Patterns that others can often see before we do.

This is one of the reasons I wrote Taking Flight and why I continue to use Extended DiSC® assessments in my coaching and consulting work.

Every assessment reveals something different.
A leader discovers why their team hesitates to bring them bad news.
A business owner learns why they struggle to delegate.
A high-performing professional realizes that what made them successful in one role may be limiting them in the next.

The goal isn't to label yourself.
The goal is awareness.

Because once you understand your behavioural preferences, you gain the ability to choose your response instead of simply repeating your patterns.

Here's a question to consider today:
💭 If the people you work with were asked to describe your communication style in three words, what would they say?
And would those three words match how you see yourself?

Curious about your own behavioural style?
Send me a message to learn more about the Extended DiSC® assessment and
discover what your results might reveal.

06/08/2026

One of the greatest lessons from Taking Flight is that growth begins with self-awareness.

Many leaders spend years trying to improve performance, communication, and relationships without first understanding the behavioural patterns that shape how they show up every day.
Through the lens of Extended DiSC®, we learn that each style brings unique strengths:

🔴 D (Dominance) – Focuses on results, action, and challenge.
🟡 i (Influence) – Brings energy, optimism, and connection.
🟢 S (Steadiness) – Creates trust, stability, and support.
🔵 C (Conscientiousness) – Provides accuracy, quality, and thoughtful analysis.

The challenge isn't our style.
The challenge comes when we assume everyone thinks, communicates, and makes decisions the way we do.
In Taking Flight, I explore the idea that possibility expands when we become curious about ourselves and others. When we understand our behavioural tendencies, we stop judging differences and start leveraging them.

A high-D leader may learn the value of patience.
A high-i professional may discover the power of preparation.
A high-S team member may find confidence in speaking up.
A high-C contributor may realize that perfection isn't always required for progress.

The most effective leaders don't try to become someone else.
They learn to stretch beyond their natural preferences while appreciating the strengths others bring to the table.

This week, consider:
👉 Which of your natural behaviours serves you best?
👉 Which behaviour might you need to stretch into more often?

Self-awareness isn't the destination.
It's the runway.
And growth begins at takeoff.
