It still doesn’t feel real.

This past weekend, I found myself standing among 40 published authors at the Beyond Words event; somewhere in that room, I realized… I am an author now.

For so long, this was just a dream I carried quietly. Something I started, stopped, questioned, and returned to again and again. And then, there I was—surrounded by authors, books, wine, friends, and people who love stories as much as I do.

The event at Grizzli Winery was beautiful. Thoughtfully put together. Full of warmth and connection. There was a moment in the day that will stay with me.

I stood up and read a piece from my book.

A piece that holds emotion. Truth. A part of me.

My voice wavered. I felt it all.

And then the room went still.

In that silence, I wondered if I had chosen the wrong reading.

And then came the applause.

I will hold onto that feeling for a long time.

Surreal is the closest word I can find to describe the experience, but even that doesn’t fully capture what it meant to stand in that space and know I didn’t give up on something that mattered to me.

Messages From Grannie was published on March 9 and is now available in paperback and ebook on Amazon.

After years of dreaming and writing many unfinished pieces, I am beyond thrilled to share that my first fictional novel was published today.

Along this journey, I learned that writing a novel is a lot harder than simply dreaming about the romantic life of being a writer. Behind every writer’s dream coming true is a team of people cheering them on and helping them navigate the world of writing. I want to give a heartfelt thank you to two incredibly talented writers I’m honoured to have on my team, Darcy Nybo and Jonas Saul, for their encouragement, knowledge, proofreading, editing, and friendship throughout this journey.

This is a project I started in 2023. Along the way, I faced the familiar fears of not feeling worthy and fell into the habit of putting my writing on the back burner. But today, I’m celebrating a goal I set for myself a lifetime ago.

What matters today is that I finally did it.

Today, I’m proud to share my first novel, Messages From Grannie, with the world.

Good afternoon, I am reaching out to my colleagues working with BC First Nations. Below is an important message from New Relationship Trust (NRT). NRT has funding available for Labour Market Planning and Studies, Indigenous Cultural Training for Employers, and Indigenous Job Fairs. NRT has been an amazing funder to work with. They are currently supporting Witset First Nation on two projects: a Labour Market Study and Indigenous Cultural Training for Employers. I am the part-time project lead for the employer training, and working closely with the lead of the market study. We have the capacity to assist with another project. I can also recommend other professionals to help with these projects.

Please contact me to discuss this important opportunity.

Workforce development is strongest when it reflects culture, community, and lived experience. Through the Labour Market Fund, Indigenous communities are leading projects that support training, employment, and long term career pathways. From culturally grounded workforce materials to Indigenous led e...

So much change and growth is possible in one year. Planted this banana tree last January, it was a tiny innocent baby tree. A year later it’s 20 feet tall and producing fruit. This tree has survived a hurricane, tropical storms, and drought. I am grateful for lessons I can learn from a banana tree 💛
