The vines that made this wine no longer exist. That’s what makes this bottle final. 🍷
We farm the East Bench Vineyard in Osoyoos, the hottest growing region in Canada. Our family has worked this ground since 2005, and the Syrah went in the year after.
Eighteen vintages, it gave us fruit.
Then the 2024 freeze came through and killed every Syrah vine we had.
So we replanted the whole block. You don’t walk away from land you believe in.
This 2022 is one of the last wines those original vines will ever give us.
Davinder tasted through the 2022 fruit and decided which barrels would house this vintage for the next 24 months. He’s a published wine biochemist, and that year the fruit told him exactly what it needed.
What the vintage gave us:
✦ Deep black fruit
✦ Cracked pepper
✦ Violet and lavender
✦ Big, grippy tannins
So we reached for American oak:
✦ 100% new Missouri American
✦ TN Coopers & World Cooperage
✦ Medium and medium-plus toast
✦ Mix of Traditional and convectional toasting
We never pick oak by formula. Every vintage gets read on its own, and the barrel follows the fruit.
In the glass:
✦ Blackberry, blueberry, sweet cedar, white pepper
✦ Black plum, anise, mocha
✦ Bone dry, full bodied, a finish that holds
✦ Cellars through 2035
96 cases. Once they’re gone, that’s it.
