This is Lorraine posting. I’m on a European bike tour. Ted, naturally and thankfully, is back home holding down the fort. Yesterday morning my biggest worry was if it was too hot to bike and how the record low levels in the Danube would affect our itinerary.
Now, like everyone else, I am worried about people, animals and livelihoods. Summerland is such a special place. My heart is breaking at the thought of what might not be any longer.
It wasn’t my idea but it is a good one. If you want to help but are far away, buy wine. NOT RiverStone wine, but wine from Summerland and honey and whatever you can. The tasting rooms are now closed at a time when revenue is usually made to get through the winter, but the online stores make it easy to put money into the hands of hardworking and very stressed people who are trying to protect their properties, families, employees and the future. Obviously, don’t expect next day shipping and be aware that the wine might not come for some time. It feels like one challenge after another in the wine industry going back to the heat dome and Covid. And now this for our neighbors to the north.
While online, why not make a donation to the Red Cross or other helping organizations in the Summerland area? Just Google it please.
Oh, and make sure you are organized to protect yourself and valuables if need be.
