Bartier Bros. Vineyard & Winery

Bartier Bros. Vineyard & Winery We are from and of this Valley. We grew up here, we know it, we love it, we are a product of it. This work ethic drives the Bartier Bros.

We humbly put forth our wines as an expression, not just of the Valley’s geography, but of the people and events that are its history. There is an ethos here that dictates resilience, optimism, and above all, self-reliance. Hard work and being content in that is a hallmark signature of the Okanagan Valley. Inspiration is always useful, and the valley has it in spades, but it is the quiet work ethic that has always brought that inspiration to the light of day. farming and winegrowing philosophy.

🌿🍇 Semillon Sunday Update 🎣

This week, our vineyard manager Andrew has swapped grapevines for fishing lines, so the fish are getting the vineyard update instead of you.

Back in the vineyard, the majority of the hands-on work on the vines is nearly complete. As we move into summer, our focus shifts to grape quality and irrigation management, making sure the vines have what they need to produce the best fruit possible for harvest.

We’ll have Andrew back with a full video update next week. Until then, let’s hope Andrew returns with a few fish and only slightly exaggerated stories. 🎣😄

Happy Semillon Sunday! 🍷

🍇 Semillon Sunday Update 🍇

Our Semillon bunches are finally starting to look like grapes.

The berries are now just slightly smaller than a peppercorn, and we’re seeing about 70% fruit set across the vineyard. Fruit set is the percentage of flowers that successfully become berries, and 70% is a result we’re happy to see. It means we’re on track for a healthy crop while likely requiring less fruit thinning later this summer.

The canopy has continued its rapid growth and has now pushed through the third catch wire. Over the past few weeks, our focus has been on building a strong canopy through tucking, irrigation, and general vineyard work. With fruit set now largely complete, we can start turning more of our attention toward fruit quality and berry development.

Every week brings new growth, and every week takes us one step closer to harvest.

Follow along as we document this Semillon block from budbreak all the way through harvest and beyond. There’s plenty more to come, and we’re excited to share each stage of the journey with you.

Remember Andrew hiding in the cover crop? 🌱

Well… there’s nowhere for him to hide now.

Our fall rye and pea cover crop has now been mowed and spread under the vines as mulch. What started as a sea of green is now helping retain moisture, build soil health, and support the vineyard through the growing season.

One cover crop. Two jobs. 🚜

First, it grows between the rows, improving soil health and supporting biodiversity. Then, after mowing, it becomes mulch under the vines, helping retain moisture and build organic matter.

🌿 Semillon Sunday Update 🌿

We’re now about 80% through flowering in our Semillon block and berry set is just around the corner— one of the most important milestones of the growing season.

While the vineyard might look calm from the patio, it’s anything but. The vines have been growing rapidly and have now pushed past the second foliage wire, which means we’re gearing up for another round of shoot tucking to keep the canopy organized and ensure good airflow and sunlight throughout the season.

Last week we also cut our mid-row cover crop.  We will be sharing the video of that this week.

See you next Sunday for another Semillon Sunay update. 🍇

🌿 Semillon Sunday Update 🌿

This week marks an exciting milestone in the vineyard—our Semillon has started flowering, with approximately 10% of the flowers now open.

Flowering is a critical stage in the growing season, as these tiny flowers will eventually become the grapes that make this year’s wine.

The weather also gave us plenty to talk about. On Friday, we received nearly 70mm of rain in a single day. To put that into perspective, that’s almost 25% of the rainfall we typically receive in an entire year.

While the rain was welcome, it also washed off some of the sulphur we use as a preventative measure against powdery mildew. As part of our sustainable vineyard practices, we’ll be reapplying sulphur this week to keep the vines protected as flowering continues.

Follow along each week as we track this block of Semillon from vine to wine.

Andrew hiding in the cover crop was not on our 2026 bingo card. 🌱😂

This mix of fall rye and peas was planted in October 2025, and now the rye is nearly ready to flower. Next step: mowing it down to create a compost under the vines.

“This is going to be fun.” 🚜

The Semillon is enjoying the spring weather and continues show lots of growth each week.

We’re at about 14 leaves per shoot, and flowering isn’t far away. The caps on the inflorescences are starting to change colour — a sign bloom is almost here.

This week has been focused on spraying, fertigation, and tucking to keep the vineyard balanced and healthy. Our featured vine is carrying about 24 bunches, putting us on track for an estimated 4–5 tons per acre depending on final bunch weights.

Did someone say Chardonnay?

Raise a glass to bright citrus, crisp orchard fruit, with a mineral driven finish. It’s the kind of Chardonnay that keeps you coming back for another sip.

Our Chardonnay 2025 is fresh, elegant, and made for sunny afternoons, good food, and great company.

Happy International Chardonnay Day!
