We are responding to two new lightning caused wildfires in the 100 Mile House Zone. BC Wildfire Service crews are onsite at both locations with helicopters and air tankers supporting response operations as required.

For detailed information please visit the dedicated wildfire incident pages here:

Chasm Creek wildfire (C40298): https://wildfiresituation.nrs.gov.bc.ca/incidents?fireYear=2026&incidentNumber=C40298&source=map

Fuel conditions across the Cariboo Fire Centre reflect a combination of last summer’s drought severity, winter precipitation and recent warm, dry conditions. When lightning strikes, it may cause ignition but not immediately grow into a significant fire. A small amount of fire can remain underground or smoulder for several days, or even weeks, depending on fuel moisture. As the weather dries out and heats up, these hot spots can flare up to become full-fledged wildfires.

We ask that everyone exercise caution and continue to report new wildfire starts by calling 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on your mobile device, or by using the Report function in the BC Wildfire mobile app. Reporting a wildfire on the app lets you upload photos, which are incredible helpful and allow our operational staff to see what is burning, where it is burning and to dispatch the best response resources.

A glimpse at the danger tree removal we did yesterday to help out some new homeowners!

We took out a total of 6 trees that could have been a possible threat, especially with the storms we’ve had this summer!

Congratulations on the new home and thanks for having us! 😎

The 2025 fire season may have had a bit of a slower start this year compared to the last few but we’re making up for it now! 🔥🥵
