Phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, scooters and more rely on lithium-ion batteries - and damaged, overheated or improperly charged batteries can become a fire hazard.

A few simple habits make a difference: charge on hard, flat surfaces, unplug when fully charged, watch for swelling or overheating and look for products certified by recognized organizations such as CSA or ULC.

For installers, it’s also a good opportunity to remind customers that everyday charging habits are part of a safer home.
