Moon Curser Vineyards is a boutique, family-owned winery on the East Bench of Osoyoos, BC, a South Okanagan border town known for its hot summers, lakeside fun and vineyards. Moon Curser has been in operation since 2004, when Chris and Beata Tolley purchased an old orchard in need of replanting, and set about converting it into what is now the Moon Curser Home Vineyard block, winery and tasting ro

om. The Moon Curser name pays tribute to the gold smuggling history of Osoyoos. The Moon Curser wines, however, break from tradition – the winery’s focus has always been on making premium wines from old-world grape varieties not previously planted in the Okanagan such as Tannat, Dolcetto and Touriga Nacional. These varieties have not historically been a part of the South Okanagan viticulture, but thrive in the distinctive terroir of the Osoyoos East Bench and continue to deliver unique, world class interpretations of these wines. Moon Curser was recognized as #1 Best Performing Small Winery at the 2019 WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada.

Sampling grapes is regularly done leading up to and throughout harvest to taste for flavour ripeness and check the sugar levels to determine the ideal picking dates. We joined our w**emaker Christian Scagnetti today to sample our Viognier from Stubbs Vineyard (and gained a newfound appreciation for this process and the little bags of smushed grapes we see at the w**ery - this vineyard is steeper than it looks 👀🎥!! Grateful for the blue sky & sunshine we got to do this under☀️).

Last week on Wednesday this Viognier measured 14.0 brix, Friday 16.5 brix, and today Mon 18.4 brix.

Watch our reel to learn more from Christian about the sampling process, to find out when Moon Curser’s harvest starts and what w**e we’re making first….

Happy International Pinot Noir Day!!

We don’t often get to celebrate this day, but Moon Curser actually used to make Pinot Noir in our early days, with our last vintage being in 2012.

Since we felt the need to supplement our 2024 harvest a little after the January freeze event, what better way to do it then to bring back some grape varieties we have long had a soft spot for. So we did what any self-respecting smuggler would do – crossed the border, seeking gold!

A little about Pinot Noir
————————————
Pinot Noir is a thin-skinned grape known for
producing delicate, elegant w**es. While it is most famously associated with Burgundy, it also thrives in various regions worldwide, particularly those with slight altitudes. Often referred to as the “heartbreak grape”, Pinot Noir has earned this title due to its reputation for producing some of the world’s finest w**es, while also being notoriously difficult to grow. The bunches are highly susceptible to a range of threats, including disease and mildew. When properly managed, Pinot Noir can yield stunning w**es - from fresh and creamy sparkling w**es, to fruit-forward and floral rosés, to complex and age-worthy reds. Moon Curser sourced these grapes from our friends at Rocky Pond Estate W**ery in Lake Chelan, Washington - just two hours south of Osoyoos.

A little about Moon Curser’s w**es made from Pinot Noir
————————————
Made in Osoyoos, from premium Washington grown grapes on the southern shore of Lake Chelan, just 2 hours south of Moon Curser. The grapes are grown on the Clos CheValle Vineyard at an altitude between 1,300 and 1,500 feet, which allowed for balanced ripening, maintaining fresh and bright acidity alongside sugar and flavour development.

Pinot Noir - Confiscated 2024, $34.99+tax
This medium-light bodied Pinot Noir has notes of red and dark fruit layered with perfumed florals. Graceful, elegant, refined—yet dangerously close to being confiscated.

Rosé - Confiscated 2024, $26.99+tax
This medium-light bodied Pinot Noir rosé is driven by notes of cranberry, cherry blossom and rhubarb. Don’t let this get confiscated!
