Nk'Mip Cellars

Nk'Mip Cellars The first Indigenous-owned winery in North America and past InterVin's Winery of the Year. Please enjoy responsibly.
(1086)

This lakeside property is located on 1,200 acres of band land located in the town of Osoyoos. This southern Okanagan area is home to Canada's only pocket desert. With some of the most spectacular views in the Okanagan, this region is well known for its long, hot summer days and cool nights, mild winters and minimum rainfall. All of these factors contribute to this fabulous grape-growing region.

The name has been here longer than the winery.

Nk'Mip, pronounced Inkameep, refers to the land at the northern end of Osoyoos Lake, the territory of the Osoyoos Indian Band and the Syilx Okanagan people. It is a place with thousands of years of history beneath it.

June is National Indigenous History Month. For us, that history isn't something we observe from the outside — it is the foundation everything here is built on.

We are guided by a respect for that history in everything we grow, make, and serve here.

The view from your table tells the whole story.

Vineyards stretching toward Osoyoos Lake, the hills holding everything in place, and the Sweetgrass menu in hand, this is what it feels like to slow down and gather with intention.

Come sit with us.

Something new is coming.

The Qwam Qwmt tier was built on a single idea: achieving excellence. Not chasing it, earning it, from this land, season after season.

Our newest expression of that pursuit arrives in June.

Stay close.

Late May asks something different of us.

The pruning is done. The decisions have been made. Now the vine takes over, and our job becomes something quieter: to watch, to trust, to wait.

The Syilx relationship with this land has always known that care is not always action. Sometimes it is presence. Sometimes it is patience.

The grapes are not yet ready. The season is.

The best meals don't compete. They complete.

Corn, beans, squash, the Three Sisters, brought together in one bowl with wild rice, avocado, candied pecans, and squash crema.

Finished with a pour of our Storytellers Pinot Blanc.

You arrive a visitor. You leave quieter. More rooted.

The air here carries it first: sage, greasewood, honeysuckle rising from the desert floor. In Nsyilxcən, there is a phrase: Sin i? Tmxʷulaxʷ. The sweet smelling place. It is not a metaphor. It is memory, held in the land.

What you take home isn't in your bag. It's in how you move through the world after.

A long weekend calls for a longer afternoon.

Nk'Mip is open daily 10am–6pm this Victoria Day weekend. And starting Monday the 18th, Sweetgrass introduces Happy Hour from 3:30 to 5pm, Monday through Thursday. Small plates, award-winning wines, the kind of afternoon that's hard to leave.

Come early. Stay a little longer.

Three landscapes. One frame.

Sage rising from the desert floor. Vines pulling from the earth above it. And the dry hills beyond, reminding you exactly where you are. This is Osoyoos, and this tension, between arid and alive, is what ends up in every glass.

The desert doesn't soften for the vineyard. The vineyard grows anyway.
