June is when mosquito activity really starts picking up across The Greater Ottawa area. Once the warmer weather and rain settle in, mosquito numbers increase fast.
Most people notice it first when they try spending time outside in the evening. Backyards, patios, and decks suddenly become uncomfortable because of constant bites.
What a lot of homeowners don’t realize is that mosquitoes can breed in very small amounts of standing water.
I often find activity building up around clogged gutters, plant trays, buckets, and low spots in the yard.
If mosquitoes seem worse around your property this year, there’s usually a reason for it nearby.
I broke down a recent mosquito prevention job in The Greater Ottawa area in this month’s journal.
