I wish more people knew this before buying car parts…

I completely understand wanting to save money by fixing your own vehicle. Honestly, I respect it. But one of the most common things I see is customers buying parts based on a Google search, a YouTube video, or advice from a friend—only to find out that wasn’t the problem.

Then the vehicle is halfway apart, the wrong part has been installed (or can’t be returned), and that’s usually when I get the call.

Sometimes the repair ends up costing more than it would have if the vehicle had been diagnosed first. Not because the work is harder, but because now we’re correcting the original issue and undoing the guesswork along the way.

A proper diagnosis doesn’t just tell you what’s wrong—it tells you what’s not wrong. And that can save you a lot of time, money, and frustration.

If you’re not sure what’s causing the problem, start with an inspection. It could save you from buying parts you never needed in the first place.

This truck is more than just a vehicle. It’s home.

The owner doesn’t put many kilometres on it, but before putting it up for sale, he wanted to make sure it was in good shape. So we completed the repairs it needed and gave it a thorough inspection to make sure there weren’t any surprises.

A lot of people think low kilometres automatically mean a vehicle is in great condition, but that’s not always the case. Time, weather, and sitting unused can wear out parts just as much as driving.

After filming this, we came back to finish the job and get everything taken care of.

It might start with something as simple as a small coolant leak or your temperature gauge creeping higher than normal. Ignore it long enough, and your engine can overheat—leading to repairs that cost far more than replacing the radiator.

Buuuutt your car usually gives you warning signs before it gets to that point.

✔️ Coolant leaking under the vehicle
✔️ Engine running hotter than usual
✔️ Low coolant levels
✔️ Steam coming from under the hood

Catching these issues early is almost always cheaper than waiting until you’re stuck on the side of the road.

This one had an interesting symptom.

The engine would idle, but as soon as you gave it throttle, it would stumble and die.

At that point, it’s easy to start guessing—and that’s where repairs get expensive.

Before replacing a single part, I always start with a proper diagnosis. Every symptom tells a story, and taking the time to understand what’s happening is what leads to the right repair.
