I had absolutely no energy today and zero motivation to go for a walk.

So I went anyway. šŸš¶šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

A leadership lesson I keep relearning…motivation doesn’t always come first. Action does. šŸŽ¬

The first step creates momentum.
That momentum creates motivation.

šŸš¶šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø What are you waiting to feel motivated to start?

šŸš¶šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø What message does your example send to those who look to you for leadership?

Yesterday walking Snickers, we watched two ducks gliding across our pond. They looked calm. Effortless. šŸ¦†šŸ¦†

But the moment we got too close, they lifted off and disappeared into the trees. 🌳

People aren’t that different.

As leaders, we want to be close enough to support, guide, and help. But there’s a fine line between being present and crowding someone’s space.

Trust grows when people have room to move. The best leaders know when to lean in and when to step back.

Not every situation needs more direction. Sometimes it needs more distance. More space.

šŸ¦† Where is your presence helping, and where might it be creating dependence?

šŸ¦† Who on your team needs more space to grow?

šŸ¦† What would happen if you stepped back just enough for others to spread their wings?

ā€œYou are beautiful.ā€

A small sign on a bathroom wall.
Simple. Easy to miss.

And yet, we often struggle to see what’s right in front of us.

Why??? Not because we’re lacking capability. It’s because we’re conditioned to look for what’s wrong.

šŸ˜ž The missed deadline.
šŸ˜ž The difficult conversation.
šŸ˜ž The thing we could have done better.

We become experts at finding our flaws and amateurs at recognizing our strengths.

The truth…leadership isn’t built on perfection. It’s built on self-awareness. It’s build on knowing where you need to grow, while also owning the value you already bring. šŸ’Ŗ

That balance…it matters!

Leaders…if you can’t see your own strengths, how will you help others see their own?

šŸŖž What are you overlooking about yourself right now?

šŸŖž Where are you focused on fixing instead of appreciating?

šŸŖž What would change if you led from your strengths more often?

There’s something about the sun breaking through the trees and lighting up a cracked road that feels like leadership to me. šŸŒ…

Not perfect.
Not smooth.
Still moving forward anyway.

Strong leaders don’t wait for perfect conditions before they keep going.

šŸŒ… Where are you waiting for things to be perfect or feel easier before taking the next step?

šŸŒ… What feels cracked, but is still carrying you forward?

šŸŒ… How are you leading when the path ahead isn’t fully clear?

There’s something powerful about working in an industry where grit matters. 🚜

Where showing up, pushing through and being resilient are critical.

If I’m honest… that’s one of the reasons I love the construction industry and the thousands of leaders I’ve had the privilege to meet, teach, coach and work with.

So when I saw this shirt I knew I just had to snag it! Laughs aside, ā€œthis is not a drillā€ feels fitting for leadership in our industry too. šŸ”Ø

Leadership isn’t theoretical when you’re responsible for people, culture, trust, safety, growth, and results.

It’s real. It’s human. šŸ‘·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

It’s showing up consistently, building trust, having hard conversations, adjusting and leading well when pressure is high.

And honestly… that’s where some of the best leaders are built.

šŸ”Ø What’s one leadership trait you believe matters most in high-pressure industries?

šŸ”Ø What does leadership look like when things aren’t polished or easy?

My 18 year old gave me this little ā€œWorld’s Greatest Motherā€ trophy, and I laugh because ā€œThe Greatest?!?ā€ā€¦I know I’m not perfect in any way. Not even close. šŸ†

In fact, in many of my training sessions and keynotes, I tell stories where my motherhood is absolutely in question. šŸ˜

The moments I lost patience.
The times I got it wrong.
The parenting decisions I wish I could redo.

But leadership isn’t about perfection.

It’s about self-awareness. šŸ†
It’s about humility. šŸ†
It’s about saying you’re wrong and that you can do better. šŸ†
It’s about being willing to learn, repair, grow, and keep showing up.

The leaders who impact us the most usually aren’t the ones pretending to have it all together…

…they’re the ones willing to be real enough for others to be great.

šŸ† What’s one lesson life has taught you about leadership that no textbook ever could?

šŸ† How could your leadership change if you allowed yourself to be more authentic instead of more polished?

I took this picture this morning. šŸ“ø

If you zoom in, you’ll see a deer quietly standing in the distance. Blending in. 🦌

Most people would focus on the sunrise, the yard or my dogs… and never notice it.

That’s true in leadership too.
But strong leaders…they notice. They search. They pay attention.

They sense the shift in energy before the conflict.
The quiet team member with something valuable to say.
The person struggling before their performance drops.
The opportunities hidden in plain sight.

Awareness is a leadership skill.

🦌 What are you noticing that others might be missing?

🦌 Where could you look beyond the obvious for more?

After 16 months of injury, I ran again.
Almost 3 km. Slowly, carefully, gratefully. šŸƒā€ā™€ļø

What struck me most wasn’t the distance. It was the courage it took to start again.

Leadership isn’t always about pushing harder or moving faster. Sometimes it’s about rebuilding confidence, trusting yourself again, and being willing to begin before you feel fully ready.

In my coaching work, I see this often. The strongest leaders aren’t the ones who avoid setbacks…they’re the ones willing to step back into the arena after them.

Today was a reminder that small steps still count.

šŸƒā€ā™€ļø What have you been waiting to restart?

šŸƒā€ā™€ļø Where has fear of ā€œnot being where you used to beā€ kept you stuck?

šŸƒā€ā™€ļø What would change if you gave yourself permission to begin again slowly?

Mother’s Day always reminds me that leadership starts long before a title ever does. 🌸

These two have taught me so much about patience, adaptability, resilience, and unconditional love. And honestly, they’ve made me a better coach, leader, and human.

One of the greatest leadership lessons I’ve learned is people grow best when they feel safe, supported, and truly seen.

So grateful to be their mom. 🌸
