Absolutely : Don't Overdo it, Celebrate your gains!
Decluttering burnout is real, but there are things you can do to prevent it:
1. Stop before you're exhausted
Yes, yes — I know you're on a roll, and you just want to get the job done! But pushing yourself to your limits isn't the solution.
It's like going to the gym for the first time in years and diving headfirst into the toughest class. If you can't walk the next day, you'll be in no rush to go back.
The same goes for decluttering. Hold something back and stop before you're completely exhausted. It will pay off in the long run.
2. Build self-care into your decluttering plans
Decluttering is physically and emotionally draining .. and it's ok to acknowledge that.
Actually, it's more than just ok. You SHOULD acknowledge that you are doing something hard, and take care of yourself accordingly.
You might need some time to physically recover, but it's more than that. You need time to emotionally recover as well.
Spend some time with loved ones, go for a walk, or read that book you keep putting off. Do something that brings you joy so you're reminded why you're decluttering in the first place.
3. Celebrate the effort, not the outcome
I can almost guarantee that decluttering will take you longer than expected, and when this happens it can be disheartening.
You start to believe the "job will never get done", and once those thoughts enter your head, you're only a few steps from giving up.
So switch the narrative. Stop obsessing over the timeline and instead, trust the process. Be proud of yourself for showing up because that's half the battle. The rest of the pieces will fall into place if you just keep going.
