True North Archaeological Services has a strong project backlog and significant upcoming projects and we’re looking for a Project Archaeologist to join our team on a full-time basis.

If you’re ready to manage projects, lead crews, and build something long-term, this is a great opportunity. Our work spans across Ontario, and while we’re Ottawa-based, we’re open to remote or hybrid work for the right candidate.

🔍 Technology in Archaeology: Revolutionizing the Past!

Recently, the True North Archaeology Team had the incredible opportunity to purchase and integrate cutting-edge technologies into our projects across Ontario. By utilizing both aerial drones and the Deep Trekker PHOTON ROV, we transformed how we approach archaeological exploration.

🛰️ Aerial Drones allowed us to conduct rapid, high-resolution surveys, uncovering details not visible from the ground. This not only enhanced site mapping but also improved efficiency, enabling our team to analyze larger areas with greater precision.

🌊 Submersible ROVs like the PHOTON brought underwater archaeology to new depths—literally! With its compact design, 4K camera, LED floodlights, and ability to operate at depths of up to 120 meters, the PHOTON delivered exceptional visuals of submerged sites.

By embracing these innovations, we’re not just preserving the past—we’re making the process more efficient, accurate, and insightful.

The beautiful thing about archaeology and material culture is that on rare occasions you find an artifact that stretches your existing knowledge. While undertaking an underwater assessment such an artifact was found.

At first, this small weathered bulls head pipe was thought to be an early ceramic to***co pipe and that's where the research was heading. However, through some out-of-the-box searches it was found out to be a 1930s soap bubble Cracker Jacks prize! How awesome is that.

If you find yourself with some free time, NCC has their public archaeological dig open on the banks of the beautiful Ottawa River near Lac Leamy. True North's very own Bradley Drouin will be demonstrating stone tool manufacturing between 10am and 2pm. It'll be a great day out.
