One of the biggest challenges organizations face is listening to frontline employees in a way that helps them feel genuinely seen and heard.

These are the people caring for patients, serving customers, collecting donations, building products, operating equipment, and keeping organizations running every day. They often have the clearest view of what's working, what's not, and what employees need to succeed.

Yet they're frequently the hardest group to reach.

That's why employee listening matters.

When organizations take the time to understand the experiences, challenges, and perspectives of frontline employees, they gain insights that can improve performance, strengthen culture, support change, and create a better employee experience.

We were honoured to support the Employee Experience team at Canadian Blood Services in this important work.

As Canada's Lifeline, their mission touches millions of lives. Helping them listen to employees and better understand their experiences was a privilege.

I was tired today and so I sat in my comfy office chair with my feet up and this video just popped into my head. How fitting that the painting of my dad was right there. 😊

How fitting since the work we do to build learning cultures is inspired by my dad.

The skills and knowledge we use today aren’t the ones we’ll need tomorrow. And the most successful organizations build cultures of learning by fostering curiosity, psychology safety, and by encouraging it (yes! Sometimes it is that easy).

You can have the best plan to boost productivity and performance with AI but you’ll fail if you don’t understand your employees.

Employees are anxious. They’re seeking guidance and they don’t trust leaders. This matters because ultimately AI adoption is not a technology challenge it’s a change management challenge.

Building a comprehensive understanding of how your employees are feeling what they’re thinking is critical to success. One drives disconnection, and creates stress and overwhelm. The other builds trust and helps employees feel seen and heard.

Only about 25% of organizations have a visible, defined AI strategy 😳

Those organizations with an AI strategy are twice as likely to report an AI driven revenue growth compared to those that take an ad hoc approach.

The lack a strategy is also a serious problem when it comes to communicating with your employees. If there’s no clear path and no clear plan, then no wonder there’s confusion misalignment and chaos when it comes to AI adoption.

And really smart organizations? They’ll get help from a communications professional to develop a clear strategy that all employees can understand and act on.
