Congratulations to our colleagues at Chantier Davie on today's announcement of a landmark shipbuilding contract.

This investment represents a significant milestone for the Canadian Coast Guard and re-inforces Davie as Canada’s Icebreaker Centre of Excellence. The work ahead will support skilled jobs, strengthen sovereign industrial expertise, and contribute to Canada's long-term maritime readiness.

We are proud to celebrate this achievement and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have across Canada's marine and defence sectors.

That is why the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, today announced the largest shipbuilding contract in Québec’s history.

We've previously highlighted the innovative cold spray manufacturing trials conducted aboard CSS Asterix during RIMPAC 2026. Now, the broader story is being shared with the maritime industry.

This initiative demonstrated the ability to manufacture, finish, and install critical components while underway, bringing advanced manufacturing closer to the point of need and helping shape the future of naval sustainment.

An Asterix Milestone (RAS) during RIMPAC 2026.
While participating in the world's largest international maritime exercise, CSS Asterix successfully conducted a replenishment with USS Essex, transferring more than 1500 m³ of F-76 fuel in support of allied operations.
The evolution was particularly significant for our crew, as USS Essex was the largest vessel Asterix has replenished to date. Initial planning explored the possibility of conducting a simultaneous dual-station fuel transfer using both our forward and aft RAS stations, an operational first for Asterix. While the final evolution was executed using a single station, the operation nevertheless provided invaluable experience and demonstrated the skill, professionalism, and adaptability of our mariners.
Operations such as these highlight the critical role Asterix plays in enabling coalition naval forces to remain sustained, flexible, and mission-ready at sea.
Bravo Zulu to the crew of CSS Asterix and our partners aboard USS Essex.
