The Legris team performed an onsite conservation treatment of 3 murals in Paroisse Sainte-Madeleine d’Outremont during the month of March 2023.
The church was decorated by Guido Nincheri, around 1927. The decoration included 12 painted scenes in the transept. The interior surfaces, including these paintings were painted over in 1966. At the start of our project, the paintings were completely hidden below a layer of light beige wall paint.

Legris Conservation's current project: Overpaint removal from the murals by the artist Guido Nincheri, nicknamed the Michelangelo of Montreal. The murals will soon be revealed in Sainte-Madeleine church in Outremont (Montreal). Covered in white paint during the 1960s, there are three paintings by Nincheri which can be admired very soon...

C-c-c-c-changes! Check out this amazing before and after transformation thanks to our good friends over at Legris Conservation Inc. 🎨

This oil on canvas portrait of Sir Edward Grant Sr., a jeweler and businessman in Bytown, was painted c.1878, and underwent cleaning, canvas repairs, retouching, and revarnishing, as well as minor frame repairs and the addition of modern backing and hanging materials. 🏗

The Bytown Museum cares for a large, eclectic collection, with each item recounting a part of our city’s rich history. We have a modest conservation budget, and when an item is in need of repairs or treatment, we rely on our amazing local partners to help us out. Des restaurateurs travaillant sur cinq portraits du Sénat ont mis au jour des détails depuis longtemps cachés sous des couches de peinture ajoutées des décennies plus t**d.

Les cinq œuvres, un peu défraîchies après avoir été exposées pendant un siècle et demi, représentent des présidents du Sénat, ou, dans la plupart des cas, des institutions qui l’ont précédé, à savoir les conseils législatifs d’avant la Confédération.

L’entreprise d’Ottawa Legris Conservation Inc. a aidé à redonner aux peintures toute leur splendeur originale, souvent en supprimant des restaurations maladroites exécutées au début des années 1900.

Lorsque les travaux de réhabilitation de l’édifice du Centre seront terminés, ces portraits réintégreront l’édifice de la Colline du Parlement, où les Canadiens pourront les voir comme les artistes l’avaient souhaité.
