Let’s be honest: most of us aren’t the final decision-makers.
We don’t always have the title, the board authority, or the loudest voice in the room.
But what do we have? Influence.
Leading through influence isn’t just a skill—it’s a mindset.
It’s about moving ideas forward when you don’t have the power to make things happen.
I explored this in a recent LinkedIn Live with strategic planning expert Lisa Chicules.
We unpacked:
- The real dynamics between CEOs and Board Chairs (the good, the bad, and the ugly)
- How to build buy-in without bulldozing
- The power of active listening to address, not just hear, concerns
📢 Key takeaway: Influence is built, not handed to you.
It grows when you:
- Present ideas with clarity, not ego
- Earn trust through consistent listening
- Invite collaboration, even when it’s messy

Now for the AI twist…
After our talk, I took the recording, uploaded it into Riverside to get the transcript, and used Perplexity.ai to help distill the content into two clear, actionable emails.
Then I did what I always do, edited it to sound more like me, added some warmth and heart, and built a framework for others to use.
Why share all this with you?
Because AI is here, and no, it’s not replacing my voice. But it is helping me get to impact faster. It’s one more tool to amplify the work we’re already doing.
💬 Now it’s your turn: What’s one way you’ve used influence, not authority, to move an idea forward?
And (bonus question) how are you experimenting with AI in your leadership or communications?
Let’s learn from each other.
