Couldn’t ask for a better partner in life or business! ❤️

Starting the Urban Art Collective.ca with late last year, was the best thing for us all!

For the past 20 years, Jason has been an Educator and Entrepreneur. As an Instructor at in the program, he is passionate about providing students with experiential learning experiences. His focus is on helping students develop their creative and critical thinking skills—to master their craft and to help them successfully start their careers.

Jason has a wide range of interests, including photography, graphic design, motion graphics, product design, sewing, screen printing, bookbinding, art and history. His many interests help shape the work he creates.

In his time away from teaching, he works hard at building the Urban Art Collective and creating cool things with Abby, myself and all the talented UAC Artists.

Abby and I are so grateful to have such an awesome guy to spend our lives with and we can’t wait to see what the future brings!

Super proud of our girl! ❤️❤️❤️

Abby has officially been launched as an Urban Art Collective.ca Founder and CCO (Chief Creative Officer) of The Kids Club. She started her Entrepreneurial Journey at the age of 5 and has not looked back.

Abby enjoys being creative everyday and always starts her day at her art table. She also spends hours envisioning cool ways to make art, design products and share her ideas with the world. Sharing is something she loves to do, as well as helping others and making the world a better place.

We’re very excited to see what this budding Artist and young Entrepreneur will create and innovate in her career! ❤️

Happy International Women's Day!

As the world spotlights and celebrates so many amazing Women for International Women's Day, we wanted to spotlight one of the .ca Founders Lindsay Machinski.

Although she likes working behind the scenes, this amazing Woman deserves some extra attention. I myself ( ) have known her as my partner for many many years in both business and life. I’ve been so fortunate to work with her on many awesome projects and building a life together.

If you’ve ever met Lindsay, you know she is very passionate about business, art, supporting all things local and her family!

Over the past 20 years as an Entrepreneur, Lindsay has worked in the Visual Arts Field. She began her Entrepreneurial journey as a Photographer and soon after, found her love for Design.

More than anything, Lindsay loves to make things for others to love. She is meticulous in her approach and dedicated to advancing her skill sets. Her goal is to learn something new each day and to continuously plan for a new and better way forward.

Lindsay started the Urban Art Collective with myself and our Daughter Abby in August of 2021. The business was created by combining all the things we love, such as urban art, photography, graphic design, antiquing, up-cycling, collaborating with creatives, community building, as well as designing and making fun, innovative products.

Our mission for the Urban Art Collective is to support local Visual Artists and make Art accessible in unique and fun ways.

So excited to start this watercolour basics course with Abby this week! 🎨

In all my years of painting, I’ve somehow never experimented with watercolour and can’t wait to dive in!

Thanks Stephanie Fehrenbach for offering this amazing course. I’ve had it printed and ready to go for many years and now I’m finally jumping in!

On this journey of sewing my capsule wardrobe, it’s really teaching me the value that should be associated to the cost of clothing.

The actual sewing component of making clothing is the least time consuming aspect, it truly is all the other stuff that takes so much time. From printing and cutting patterns, to cutting fabric, pinning, ironing and measuring, these really are way more time consuming than the actual sewing.

With all the hours I’ve spent sewing so far and with the money I’ve spent on fabric, I can’t help but think of all the people not being paid fair wages. I’ve known about this problem for years…it’s just now I actually know how long adult clothing takes to make and the associated costs—making the picture so much clearer. 😥

As I embark on making a capsule wardrobe from the linen I purchased…I’m also pulling together some accent fabrics, wood beads…along with vintage buttons and thread.

One of my inspirations behind the colours I chose, is the bird pouch my husband made me out of up-cycled upholstery fabric, as well as an up-cycled zipper and thread. The pouch is also part of his upcoming product line, for his business General Use Casual.

Can’t wait to share more!

I’m loving all these pretty colours of Linen I ordered from Pure Linen Envy and that they are OEKO-TEX 100 certified!

When searching for fabric to sew with, my number one goal was to find fabrics that are Environmentally Friendly and Linen checked that box.

Did you know?

“Linen is one of the most biodegradable and stylish fabrics in fashion history. It is strong, naturally moth resistant, and made from flax plant fibres”

“Every part of the flax plant has traditionally been used to create a worthwhile product—nothing is wasted, and production is cost effective. A common by-product of flax is linseed oil, which is great for wood preservation, especially in varnishes, and flaxseed oil is also rich in omega 3! Flax is resilient and can grow in poor soil, using far less water in its consumption than cotton. According to the European Confederation of Linen and H**p, “Across its lifecycle, a linen shirt uses 6.4 litres of water” compared to 2,700 litres for a cotton shirt.” — Good On You

We eat a lot of flax at our house, so I’m really happy I can now wear other parts of the plant too! 😀

In case you are wondering, OEKO-TEX 100 certified means they are certified to not contain harmful substances.
