I have had the BEST clients over the course of the last few years. Another LinkedIn recommendation! Thank you so much, Danielle.

November 24, 2020, Danielle managed Ruth directly

"Ruth is an absolute joy to work with. She is an excellent writer who requires virtually no guidance whatsoever. She can take a project and run with it without any hand-holding. Ruth is extremely communicative and always professional. I would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone who needs an expert voice for their company."

I almost never ask clients for LinkedIn recommendations, but after working with one for the better part of two years, I mustered up my courage and asked. And now I'm almost in tears at all the lovely things she said about me.

"Ruth is an absolute pleasure to work with. She worked on many freelance writing projects from 2019-end of 2020 with me at [redacted]. She was always willing to learn, very flexible, her writing was great and she was always on target! I'm looking forward to working with her again in the near future. Highly recommended for your freelance projects!"

Creative non-fiction FTW!

CNFC is bursting with ideas and projects! Thrilled to be part of this series, with the excellent Betsy Warland as moderator and reader, with Kate Braid, Joan Boxall, and Janet Love Morrison. I look forward to hearing what my fellow writers have just produced and to sharing my own new work.

But what's going on with Ian Brown's memoir about his mother, REGRET? Inquiring minds want to know.

Just spent the most stimulating, inspiring hour and a half (and more) listening to Ian Brown speak about writing narrative nonfiction. Be alert to what interests you. Find the most important details and scenes and tell them in the most interesting way. Be original and bold and take risks on a journey where the end point is unknown. If you don't tell it, who will? Thank you CNFC and Ian Brown! If we don't tell the stories that matter, who will?

Fascinating. Sales aren't everything when it comes to tracking reading habits. I opted out of Amazon's recommendations algorithms (back when I still occasionally bought from Amazon because they sometimes have books not available elsewhere) because they don't actually distinguish between books you've bought for friends and those you've bought for yourself.

I read Michael Crummey's THE INNOCENTS at the beginning of this year, pre-pandemic. It and ELEANOR OLIPHANT IS PERFECTLY FINE were wake-up calls for me in terms of the social isolation one experiences anyway when working from home.

I've learned a little more about terpenes recently, and the biochemistry of cannabis just fascinates me. From an article about how technology is changing the pot industry, this seems like the most necessary and fundamental and likely to yield long-lasting, good results. And then I think, wait a minute, is this personalized SOMA? And is it so very terrible if it is?

"Personalized products

The use of ma*****na varies widely from person to person, all due to genetics. Since we each have our own DNA, cannabis affects us in different ways, resulting in experiences that differ in key aspects. According to PCMagazine, some cannabis companies hope to address this by personalizing your highs. CannabisDNA is administering a $129 saliva based test swab that creates a profile of your responses to different cannabinoids. Afterwards, a report is produced, showing strains that function well with your system.

While this feature is not accessible for the majority of cannabis users, in the future, ma*****na retailers could use this technology to provide customers with products that will do exactly what they want them to do."

Canna-business is evolving along with technology. Here are three of the most promising technological developments that the cannabis industry is making. Technology affects just about everything, from the way in which we interact with others to how companies function. The cannabis industry isn’t exe...

Naturally, as a writer, the possibility of losing work to AI-generated writing perturbs me. AI is definitely not there yet. But my question is, why are sites that obviously use AI-generated text not hiring more editors to smooth out the copy? See this example from Interesting Engineering. I mean, it could be ESL writing. But somehow I doubt it.

"This isn't the first time a Tesla crashes into something while operating on autopilot, just take a look at this Tesla Model 3 that slammed into a truck. However, there are some nicer instances when autopilot successfully maneuvered unpredictable moves on a road.

However, the recent incident in North Carolina does highlight the fact that more attention needs to be given by the drivers operating Teslas on autopilot. It's not just a matter of switching on the button and becoming entranced by your smartphone screen, completely unaware of the world around you.

Perhaps Tesla needs to rethink some of its marketing strategies around autopilot, to better instruct people on how to use it safely and properly. That said, it's hard to cater completely to such a wide range of people in the world, there will always be some who don't adhere to the rules.

In this instance, it was a lucky call that no one was hurt."
