CRI Council - Construction Resource Initiatives Council

CRI Council - Construction Resource Initiatives Council Initiated in 2009 as a Drywall Recycling Task Group, which became the 'Construction Resource Initiatives Council' nonprofit in 2012.

But financial reasons forced its closure

Yet, MISSION 2030 work continues as an initiative through vitaegroup.ca/vitae/ Core Principles

Construction Resource Initiatives Council – Core Principles

The Need for Change

We acknowledge that buildings, their infrastructure, operations and maintenance represent the most significant human contribution to environmental degradation. To continue buildin

g and demolishing these structures as though the supplies of resources, room for waste disposal and the planet’s ability to absorb toxins are all limitless, threatens our environmental, economic and social sustainability. Increasing Awareness

We will work to increase public awareness of this issue, support existing industry campaigns, encourage and create new collaborative educational programs between and for the public and private sectors to increase environmental literacy and motivate all levels of governments, businesses and individuals to rise to the challenges. Integrated Process

By adopting an integrated process for the whole of the IC&I sector, the Construction Resource Initiatives Council aims to increase a cooperative approach to deal with this growing issue, in a balanced economical, social and environmental manner. Commitment

We are committed to supporting the development of green building codes, standards, guidelines and tools aimed at reducing the negative life cycle impacts, focusing on those associated from wasted resources, seeking first and foremost reliable measurable and verifiable results. Support for Regulation

Respecting and ensuring the implementation and enforcement of existing regulations is vital to the success of achieving any other goals and objectives. Therefore, we will give our full support to those already working in this field. We will be vocal supporters of official efforts to reduce waste and improve sustainability. Advocacy

We will advocate for improved support to recyclers and waste reduction infrastructure in a pragmatic manner, and oppose the creation of new landfills or landfill expansions. Sustainable Design

We will encourage design strategies that utilize sustainable principles, proven best practices, such as design for durability, disassembly and deconstruction in order to reduce dependence on virgin resources, reuse salvageable components and recycle existing materials. Net-Zero Waste

Inspiring research and development that results in innovation towards our vision of net-zero waste.

DID YOU KNOW?

On June 1, 2016, Ontario Passed New Waste-Free Ontario Act

The province will also be finalizing its draft Strategy for a Waste-Free Ontario: Building the Circular Economy within three months of the legislation coming into effect. The strategy outlines Ontario's vision for a zero waste future and proposed plan to implement the legislation. Though not the general purpose of our 2 day meeting, this will now almost certainly form a very important part of our discussion as a waste free province and circular economy cannot be achieved without a plan and design professionals, educators, researchers.... Please join us or ensure your association is present. This is also a massive win for those addressing short-lived climate pollutants/climate change issues.
