Our office is in downtown Ottawa. We are three blocks away from the parliment buildings. We are less than two blocks away from the central telecommunications hub in Canada’s capital city. For over two hours in mid day we have had internet outage. How can that be? We are a stones throw away from the Central hub… its customer me z couple of hours of productive work… talk about frustrating!!!’ Hopefully Bell will get this fixed!!!!

Don’t book hotels through Reservation.com.

First I’m a Canadian booking a room in Canada at a Hampton hotel. No where did they indicate when I made the booking that they were going to charge me in US dollars. The website shows rates listed as $301 for the room. I’m in Canada so is the Hotel but the booked me in using USD and it was only after the charges had gone through and the reservation been forwarded that I realized that I had been scammed.

I discovered that I had planned for two nights and they had only booked me for one night.

I complained about the currency issue. I tried to cancel but was told that their policy was no cancellation policy.

So I booked the second night directly with the Hampton Inn in Belleville and realized I was offered a lower rate in Canadian dollars for the 2nd night than I had received from Reservation.com. I made them aware that I had booked direct for the 2nd night.

I will never ever use their services again. At 8.00pm the night before I leave to go to Belleville they cancel my room and left me stranded with no room now available at the hotel…. The hotel doesn’t realize I have a reservation for the next night.

These guys are a disaster… Ripping me off screwing me without providing an option to book in CAD $’s knowing I was leaving within in 12 hours.

Don’t take the risk they will screw you over… move on. Use an agent or book direct!!!

In business you win some and you lose some.

The current pandemic has created a unique environment which is resulting in some unusual behaviour. Cyber crime is on the rise. The demand for quality Security practitioners continues to rise as well. We recently lost a piece of business where the competition bid almost 40 percent below current industry rates. Why does the crown think that those rates are remotely realistic?

The reality is that most practitioners will turn the firms down for work at those rates.

But we are all well aware that some firms will get creative in how to deliver the services needed. They may work four days and bill five to make it worthwhile, or use fixed priced quotes to deliver work on a per diem based SA.

Bad behaviour leads to other bad behaviour. Clients don’t want to wait for another 6 months or more to get another new Supply Arrangement in place.

Procurement doesn’t care. They followed the prescribed process. It’s not their fault if the winning firm doesn’t deliver.

The current process is seriously flawed. It takes far to long. Numerous bids are rigged with requirement engineered to be suitable for just one company.

Townhall meetings were held by PS&PC to advise firms serving the government that changes are coming. March 2020 was the targeted date.

The crown needs to get rid of the grid process. Go back to picking consultants based on CV’s and interviews.

The time lost in preparing and populating skill grids to verify skills and experience takes weeks to create and review. The process is painful and laborious and is leading to embellishment and exaggeration with no validation. The few times you provide references, in most cases are never ever called.

Let’s stop this procurement madness. Go back to simpler ways. Be Open and Transparent. But also empower your own staff to be objective. To make decision. The crown has hired capable talented educated staff, let them choose the talent or the best solution that serves Canada best.

Due to prolonged government procurements bad behaviour is happening within both the client and vendor communities. Vendors are fabricating content and using poster children CV’s often without the candidates consent.

The crown when making a mistake in the evaluation process does not choose to fix the mistake but rather wants to sweep the problem away. No emails to acknowledge the failure, calls perhaps to acknowledge the error but no re-evaluation or change of winner. Ten years ago and beyond management would address the error, today it is simply ignored. Why you might ask. The procurement in many cases has already taken 6 months or more. They used to take weeks, so clients frustration levels are high.

As a Canadian I expect more. Such is life.
