This article is exactly why I started my business - and why I have tried to connect with small business enterprise centers. New businesses have little to no experience or knowledge in what is needed when it comes to health and safety.

The legal requirement for having a health and safety program is once you have 6 workers. That doesn't mean you don't have to provide training for the workers you have. All workers have the right to be trained and understand what hazards they may be exposed to.

If you are a small business owner with less than 6 workers, contact us today to walk you through what training your workers need. And an easy way that we can provide it.

Workers in small businesses have higher rates of work-related injuries and fatalities than those in larger businesses, even within the same sector. To best prevent injuries, OHS management in these businesses should start early in their life cycle. But according to a new IWH study, few programs or p...

This is for those who run or stores.

Starting April 1, the Ministry of Labour launched their new safety campaigns. For these sectors they are focusing on general compliance and MSD prevention in retail.

What does that look like? Ensuring there are safety programs in place, safety ladder use and storage, that workers understand their rights and responsibilities.

Contact us today if you need assistance in either of these areas.

Tragic Workplace Fatality at UPS Warehouse Under Investigation

A 43-year-old UPS employee, Shelma Reyna, was fatally injured on September 21 while loading packages in a trailer at the company’s Richmond, California facility. Reports indicate boxes or a malfunctioning conveyor system may have played a role in the accident.

Despite immediate emergency response, Reyna was pronounced dead at the scene. She leaves behind five children.

Both Cal/OSHA and local law enforcement are investigating the incident. Union officials have also stated they are working to determine whether malfunctioning equipment or prior safety issues contributed to the tragedy.

This heartbreaking case is a sobering reminder of the importance of maintaining safe equipment and enforcing strict workplace safety protocols. NASP extends condolences to the family, co-workers, and all impacted by this loss.

Over the last 5 weeks, I have heard from 3 of my clients regarding 4 incidents, one of which was critical.

Understanding how to manage incidents is crucial for supervisors and company owners. Failing to protect a scene, document events, or report injuries properly can increase the risk of fines from both WSIB or the MLISTD.

Spencer Safety Solutions can train your staff on how to manage and report incidents.
